Hermione woke with a gasp, startling McGonagall, who had fallen asleep.

The old witch almost fell off the bed and steadied herself just in time.

"Goodness, Miss Granger. Are you alright?" Asked McGonagall as she straightened her clothing.

Hermione looked at her in confusion. When the hell had she arrived? She looked down quickly, relieved that Severus had taken the time to dress her.

She sighed deeply. She nodded as she looked around.

"Severus is with Dumbledore," said McGonagall as she read the girl's expression.

Hermione's eyes dimmed again. Why? Why would he leave her?

Just then, the door burst open, revealing the Potions master. His face was in a scowl until his eyes rested on Hermione.

He ran to her side and kissed her repeatedly. Hermione giggled at the gesture.

"You have to stop doing this, woman," he said gruffly as he pulled her toward him.

Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck. She planted a kiss on his cheek.

"I'm so sorry, Sev. I don't know what happened," she said apologetically as she loaded her gaze.

"It's okay. You're okay. Just don't do it again," he said as he embraced her again.

"I'll try not to," said Hermione as Poppy rushed in.

She smiled at Hermione.

"I'm glad you're awake, Miss Granger. Can you explain what happened?" Asked the nurse in concern as she sat.

"I'm not sure really. I ran a bath and when I got in my legs felt numb but I ignored it. After a while my arms felt odd and I called Severus for help. After that I blacked out," said Hermione with a shrug.

Poppy nodded, a knowing smile suddenly playing across her lips.

"It's nothing to worry about," said the nurse as she let her breath out, which she didn't know she had been keeping in,
"it's a rare condition. Some pregnant women get it. What happens is the veins or nerves become blocked or have trouble working. It causes temporary numbness. It's just your body working overtime to care for you and your baby."

Hermione felt about as lost as everyone else looked.

"It's not dangerous?" Asked McGonagall.

"Not necessarily. See, it only happens when you are completely relaxed. So the chances of it happening while standing or walking, well let's just say it's never happened," said Poppy with a smile.

Hermione sighed gratefully. She squeezed Severus' hand.

"Is there no way to stop it?" Asked Severus in a gruff tone.

"Unfortunately not," said Poppy with a shrug," it only stops when the body isn't working as hard. Therefore only the body can stop it."

Severus grunted. Hermione looked at him lovingly.

McGonagall clapped her hands excitedly.

"You're going to be okay," she said with a dashing smile.

"I guess I am," said Hermione as she looked at Severus with concern written all over her face.

After everyone had left, allowing  Hermione to get ready for the day, she turned to Severus.

"Are you okay?" She asked as he looked up, startled by her sudden enquiry.

"I am fine," he said in his teacher tone.

"Don't mock me," she said sternly,"Just answer me."

Severus sighed deeply.

"I guess," he said, shrugging it off.

"Dammit, Severus! What's going on with you?" She demanded.

That sparked him into motion.

"Don't work yourself up," he said as a warning.

"Oh shut up about that already and answer me!" She raised her voice.

He threw his hands into the air.

"Yes. I'm fine. I was worried about you, okay?" He said with a frown.

Hermione nodded slowly.

"Okay," she said softly.

He sat next to her and held her tight.

"I'm sorry," he said," I didn't mean to go off like that."

"It's okay," she said as she stood,"it's time for breakfast anyway."

"You look like hell," said Ron as he stuffed his plate with whatever he could lay his hands on.

"Thanks, Ronald. I'll make a note to look better next time," said Hermione sarcastically.

"Blimey," said Ron with a frown,"don't kill the messenger, yeah?"

"Sorry," Hermione said, feeling even worse.

"Hey," said Harry as he moved closer,"it's okay. You're emotional. It happens."

Hermione looked at him with tears in her eyes. She smiled as she let him comfort her.

She rested against his shoulder as she felt her head spin.

"You okay?" Asked Harry as he looked at his friend with concern.

"Yeah," said Hermione,"just dizzy. It happens sometimes."

Ron and Harry looked at each other. As much as they were worried about their friend, they wouldn't meddle in.

The rest of the morning went by rather quickly for Hermione.

She had a round of mild morning sickness but it was over sooner than she thought.

Snape had given the class the period off as long as they didn't bother him. Hermione frowned as she found it strange.

She saw him writing quickly. Almost as if in a rush. Harry and Ron noticed too, apparently.

"What do you think he's writing?" Harry whispered to Hermione.

"How would I know?" She asked in frustration.

"Well you are...you know...with him," said Ron as his cheeks flushed.

Hermione scoffed.

"Whether I am or not isn't the point," she said as she glared at the two boys,"the point is I know as much as you do."

Harry shrugged as he looked at the Potions master again.

"Well he sure looks in a rush, don't you think?" Asked Harry.

Hermione looked at him in a way that would have sent even Severus running for the hills.

"Yes, Harry,"she said with a groan," I've noticed."

"You don't suppose it's his resignation?" Asked Ron with a smirk.

Harry punched him on the arm.

"Ow. Blimey, Harry was that necessary?" Ron grumbled.

"Yes," said Harry as he did it again," and so worth it."

"Stop it, Harry," said Hermione,"stop it or I'll start."

At that, the boys gave each other one last look before turning their attention to their books.

Hermione smiled proudly. So they were scared of her...She would do well to remember that in the future...
