I pull on my skinny jeans and a spirit shirt before grabbing my athletic shoes, and making sure my braid looks okay in the mirror. I lay back down on the bed for only a minute because I am still very tired. I didn't get much sleep last night. I stayed up finishing an English assignment and then I couldn't fall asleep after I finished. And I know Johanna will be up here any minute, yelling at me to hurry up. That's how it's been since I moved in a few weeks ago. The spare bedroom in the Mason house had been serving as my bedroom until I'm 18.

"Hey brainless hurry up!" Johanna yells from outside of the bedroom. I groan, but lift myself off the bed. I open the door to find an impatient looking Johanna waiting for me.

"After school you have to go meet with a lawyer about you moms will." She says.

"I know." I look at the ground.

"Remember, Peeta is going with you." She says putting a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks." I look up and smile. We both walk out of the room and downstairs to the kitchen, grabbing a muffin and rushing out the door. We drive separately to school today because we will be going to separate places afterwards. Plus, I'm picking Peeta up before school today. So just before we get to school, she turns right and I go left towards Peeta's house. But before I get there, I stop my car along side the road. What's the point in going to school today? Its not like I'm going to be able to concentrate on anything anyways. So I pull out my phone and text Peeta.

Me: hey babe, grab a couple blankets on your way out? :)

Peeta: sure! Mind telling me why?

Me: I don't want to go to school today. Almost there be ready:)

With that said, I put my phone down and start driving again. Peeta's house isn't to far away so I'm there within five minutes. Peeta sits outside of his front porch, holding two blankets, and he quickly stand when he see me. I smile and wave at him, excited to see him. He only looks at the ground, but hurries to the car. He puts the blankets in the back and sits up front with me.

"Let's go." He simply says.

"Peeta?"

"Katniss just drive." He says looking up finally. I gasp as I take in the sight before me. Peeta's eye is swollen and turning blue, and his lip is cut.

"What happened?" I say touching his cheek, running my finger over his lip.

"I told you she didn't stop beating me." He says quietly, looking away from me.

"Why did she-" I start but am cut off by someone outside yelling. We both snap our heads to see someone standing in the doorway waving her fist. It's Mrs. Mellark. Not only does she look mad, but she is coming towards my car.

"Katniss drive!" Peeta almost yells, watching outside the window. I put the car in reverse quickly and back out of the driveway, just as Mrs. Mellark is about to reach my car with a wooden spoon in her hand. I look in my review mirror and see her walking back to the house.

"Peeta tell me what happened."

"No."

"Peeta!"

"It doesn't matter Katniss!" He raises his voice at me. I don't remember him ever doing that. I know I should just shut up, but I don't.

"Don't yell at me! Yes it does!"

"Who cares!? It's over with!" He yells.

"Because you are hurt!"

"This is nothing!"
