This school day is going completely normal. Actually, better than normal, it's amazing. The Careers have left us alone basically all day. I haven't seen any of them look at us weird, laugh, or purposely run into us. And I must say, I feel better after telling my friends my story yesterday. I'm glad I don't have to keep it from them anymore and that when I'm upset, I don't have to keep it bottles up inside of me. I can talk to someone about it. Because my mother is no help since she is at work all the time. My dad and Prim are gone, though they are basically the reason I went in that dark stage. But I shouldn't think of that now. I walk into my classroom, biology. Great. I'm sure that Peeta will find a way to ruin this perfect Tuesday morning. I go in and sit down next to him, not paying much attention to him. I didn't talk to him yesterday and I'm sure he is about ready to chew me out for the prank and scaring the shit out of all of them. Instead, as I set down my backpack, His voice isn't angry.
"Hello." He says nonchalant. I stay silent and pull out my biology book. I'm sure he is going somewhere with this.
"Okay class. Today I want you to work with your table partner on page 543, questions 5-20." I heard Mrs. Octavia say. I sigh. I get my book and open to the right page, then I slowly look at Peeta.
"I do the even problems and you do the odd?" I ask. He nods. We both start working on it, neither of us speaking to each other. We work quickly, and exchange answers. Well, copy. We don't speak. At some point, I hear him talk again.
"So how are you doing today?" He asks.
I ignore him again.
"You know Katniss, It's rude not to answer someone."
"Why are you talking to me?" I snap.
"Because. That was a very horrible trick you played on us."
"And that was a very horrible shot in gym the other day." I say.
"You are still on that? It wasn't on purpose."
"Well this just makes up for a few other things." I mumble.
"What was that?"
"Nothing." I say coldly.
"You know how freaked out we were?" He asks.
"That was kind of the point." I say like it's the most obvious thing in the entire world. Which honestly it is.
"I wasn't scared like that. Everyone else was afraid they were going to die but I wasn't." He says.
"You weren't afraid of dying?"
"No. I knew it was a prank because I wasn't drunk. Everyone else was though so they though they were going to get a knife in their back."
"Yeah, you didn't think for one second it was real and you could die." I say rolling my eyes. He is putting on a tough guy act.
"Even if I did, it didn't bother me. Death comes to everyone Katniss. Sometimes it comes earlier than others, and sometimes people want it to come, they just don't want to find it themselves." Peeta says. I may hate him, but I think about that. Wasn't that me? Didn't I just want my life to be over because my father and Prim weren't in it?
"So you weren't scared of an axe in your head?" I ask a little disappointed. I only wanted this plan to follow through to scare Peeta for hitting me in gym.
"No, but I was still scared."
"About what?"
"Delly was in the middle of the room, blood coming out of her chest where the knife was. What do you think?"
