20. Beautiful

Song wasn’t sure what had happened to Vaan or why he was acting so weird all the sudden, but he wasn’t going to piss him off by asking a ton of questions.

Actually, he was already trying to answer a bunch of questions himself.

“Another long and uneventful trip to the library,” Song said as he closed a huge, tattered book and it slammed shut. “What a waste of time.”

Celeste shrugged at him, “Well, think of it this way. At least you’re gaining some knowledge from all of this.” She smiled at him and he smiled in return.

Song leaned back in his chair and looked around the history section. That section alone could fill his dorm room from wall to wall, floor to ceiling with books. They’d only gone through about half of them and Song was pretty much fed up. Nearly every history book mentioned Selena.

Did they say how to ask for her help, or summon her?

Or how about a way to kill an immortal who isn’t exactly a normal immortal?

Nope. Not one could answer these questions that nearly ate away at Song’s brain and all logic. It was odd, he noted. Because normally when one wishes to talk to a god or goddess they could pray or meditate and they would answer through a psychic link, or through physical things. But Selena never answered, in any way, no matter how many times they’d prayed or asked her to help.

It felt a bit like being abandoned.

“…Right, Song?” Celeste’s voice was the emergency brake on his train of thought and he snapped his head up to look at her. “I’m sorry, what?” He asked her.

Celeste sighed and pointed at a drawing in one of the books. The woman, had long, flowing black hair and blue eyes, but she looked very sad.. Underneath was a caption in Latin. “Isn’t she beautiful?” Celeste asked him. “I wonder if she really looks like that…” Song realized the woman was supposed to be Selena. He nodded in response.

Celeste leaned back in her chair and flipped the page and muttered under her breath, “Wish I was that beautiful.” Her voice had hardly been audible, but Song heard.

He looked at her and almost spoke, but then he just looked at her. Celeste was beautiful. Blonde hair, grey eyes and olive skin. Her ears ended at a point, like most elves did, and they were pierced. She was dressed pretty nicely, as well, and she didn’t even really have to try.

Actually, she was just beautiful. Even if Song was blind he would still know she was beautiful, because she was this amazing person and- He stopped himself. Celeste and I are friends, he mentally informed himself. Plus there was a bit of a war going on, dating wasn’t exactly his top priority and who even said he wanted to date her? She was beautiful, yeah, but can’t a guy just think that?

“But I don’t,” He said aloud and Celeste stared up at him, an amused smirk on her face.
