don't you want to love like how people used to?
a passion worthy of 1950s idealism-
rose coloured lenses and white picket fences;
periods of old hollywood love stories
and profound declarations of emotions,
the days of fearless love and admirable vulnerability
maybe that's why i have a deep obsession with those movies-
because they help me pluck the courage to be fearless,
to say how all i want is to drown and consume myself in you.
what happened to us?
what turn us into these depraved, miserable souls,
we scoff at love and we dehumanise intimacy,
we cheer when people fall apart and
we give up ultimately when we don't win something
are we so heartless-
are we thorns and prickly roses-
are we apathetic and numb-
so devoid of hope, so deprived of the
idealism, the impressionable hope
of love and bright days and soulmates
that our grandparents cherish and share?
