I feel like that word (^) may have more of an effect if you google the dictionary definition
I recently had the idea to pre-write updates before I publish them, like a week or so, in order to try and sort out my shit update schedule so i have about three fully written chapters just sitting there and the urge to just publish them for you is unbelievable
This one is poorly written and full of moments of appalling characterisation, forgive me. (i actually really hate this chapter lol)
Thank you for reading pals, love you :)

-"But I didn't leave my wallet in your car. I don't even have a wallet. What would I need a wallet for?"
Miles rolled his eyes, smirking wildly as he slid onto the desk. Quite why he was so enjoying this phonecall he couldn't say- it was either down to the fact that he'd been entirely alone all morning or because he'd been thinking of little else in the three days since he'd last seen Alex, when he'd dropped him off at his house.
"I know you didn't," he answered Alex, whose voice had been somewhat distorted by the phone. "But that's the cover story."
There was the sound of air blowing across the line, and he suspected that was because Alex had laughed shortly. "Why do we need a cover story? Just say it's business."
"Ah, but that's boring," Miles retorted almost as soon as the words had left the other man's mouth. He was in one of those moods this morning where every sentence had a sarcastic, double-edged answer and any tiny shred of his own sarcasm was absolutely hilarious.
"And you said your dad wasn't too happy about the business deal anyway, so I doubt he'd let me in your house." Honestly, if Miles turned up at the Turners and wanted to get in, there was precious little that would stop him. The Kane could be very persuasive when he wanted to be and, since the tension of the past few days had finally simmered down and disappeared, he was looking for something even vaguely interesting to do that wasn't going to involve the police. Pissing off Alex's dad was a good example of both.
Alex laughed again. "If you brought him something alcoholic, he'd probably let you sleep with my mother."
Miles laughed at that, shaking his head as he drew up one knee so he was sitting on the desk, propped against the wall. Quite why no one in the house seemed capable of sitting on chairs instead of the furniture, he couldn't tell- but since it went well with the aura and overall aesthetic of the place, he didn't bother stopping them. Even the windowsills were pleasant enough to work out the finances on.
Despite this conversation seeming pleasant and the pair of them exchanging amusing retorts, Miles felt slightly sick, right down in the pit of his stomach. It had been three days since he'd told Jamie what he planned to do, three days since he'd beaten up Will and told Alex to stay out of things he didn't understand- and yet here he was with his veins like the electrics because he'd made his mind up. Alex wanted to know, so Miles was going to tell him.
No one else had taken that very well at all. Robert had burst out laughing until it became apparent that Miles wasn't joking. Will, who had spent the rest of the day in a silent sulk and who now had several spectacular bruises marring his jaw and one of his eyes, simply shook his head in disgust, not wanting to make his position any more evident for fear of being punched again. Jamie had spent twenty minutes trying to persuade Miles that this was a terrible idea, that they all knew what it would lead to- but the Kane would not be swayed.
"Will you be home in about an hour?" Miles asked after a moment of silence on the line.
There was the sound of deliberation and rustling papers before Alex replied. "Yeah." He laughed again, no more than a breath. "I'm not incapable of coming up to you, you know."
