Mysterious Sounds

 Us four followed Talia deep into the jungle. We walked for what seemed like hours. I got bored so I started some small talk with Donny.

                    " So dude, we missed basketball practice. That stinks. I really wanted to make the team this year."

                                                     " Yah man. I wanted to make the team too," Donny told me. I knew he really wanted to too. He talked about it all the time with Ashley. As much as it annoyed the both of us we were happy that he wanted to do something for once.

                                  " There's always a next time," I said.

               " Yah but I practiced day and night. It's not fair," he kicked a rock on the ground. Ashley hugged him and smiled.

                     " You'll make it next time and who knows, maybe there's a possibility that we could time travel." She always attempts at brightening his day. It almost always worked.They started talking so I walked up to Kiyara just five steps in front of us

                                 " Hey Kiyara," I smiled. " What's up."

      " I'm bored that's all." She had her head to the ground." I was wondering how you're okay with that ur... ability that you have." I thought that she already knew that I'd gotten over it.

         " You made me get over it. I never told you this but when I think about you it makes me feel ... better." I could tell my cheeks were turning bright red. She grinned.

                 " Well when I think about you It always make me get butterflies. When I think about you it lets me know that everything's going to be alright." She blushed and whispered to me," I've had a crush on you since first grade."

                     I had a surprised look on my face. " For real! I had a crush on you since first grade too." I laughed a bit. " So when did you fall in love with me."

                     She opened her mouth and looked shocked. " What?"

  I explained to her," When we were in the bushes you told me you told me you loved me." She turned her face.

                                                       " It's too embarrassing."

  I dropped the subject. Suddenly, I hear someone talking. It wasn't Donny, Ashley, or Kiyara. It was far away. It was just at the brink of my hearing range. Then it all went quiet.

             " Did you hear that," Kiyara asked. So I wasn't the only one that heard it.

 " You're not the only one, I heard it too and I don't know. It sounded like people talking."

            Talia says darkly ," It was. That's the sound of monsters."

  I thought to myself,' They don't sound like monsters.'  Talia turned to me as we stopped in a halt.

   " Well they are," she says as if she could hear my thoughts. " This tends to happen in magical places. Things get in and inhabit. In this case these are hunters we're dealing with."' Hunters?,' I wonder. And in response she says," Hunters are people who hunt other magical creatures or... people. In this scenario, they're just your everyday predators. But they're... different because they're monsters they eat the creatures and love to eat... people."

                                                " People?," Ashley repeats.

         " Yes, people and in this case it will be... a delicious meal for them. So you'll have to train here." The thought of training at the last minute frightened me. In fact, everyone seemed nervous. Especially Donny. He had sweat pouring down his cheek. As the result of us walking through the hot jungle, our "W" shirts had brown stains and were sweaty. But it was obvious that it wasn't just the hot jungle making him sweat. SLSH!That sound sounded a bit closer this time. We jumped but Talia was un-phased. In a completely normal tone ( for her ) she explained," Us magical people can charge our magic ,wasting our energy in the process. To do this, you must calm yourself and focus on your magic rising."

                      In demonstration she balled her hands into fists and growled a bit. I could tell she was focusing because she was slightly shaking. It felt as if I could sense it.

           Finally she said," There. I raised my magic so that even you four, untrained wizards and witches can sense it"

                     'So I did sense it. Her power feels dark but has an edge of light in it.'

                   " Yah, I sensed it too," shouted Donny. Kiyara smiled so I knew she felt it too.

                                    Ashley also said," Yah me too. Felt weird but I did."

                    Talia nodded." Okay, now try. Focus on your power." I closed my eyes and focused intensely. I felt a power stirring inside me. I was aware that I had raised my magic up. Almost as if by instinct I opened my hand up and put it in front of me. I opened my eyes and saw that a sphere of shadows spinning was floating two inches above my opened hand. A kind of black aura surrounded me,

              Talia smiled. A first, and said," Well done Zach." And for a moment I saw a bit of a childlike personality being trapped away in a cage. ' So she isn't just an ice queen. She has feelings.,' I thought.

             As I peered around I saw that a lightning like aura surrounded Donny. I also saw that a purple fire-like aura enveloped Kiyara. But something that amazed me the most was that a silent, mini tornado circled around Ashley. She was most likely controlling it because her eyes were narrowed at it.

                              " Cool. Way to go Ashley," I said, astonished.

                             " Y-You too," she said in an almost silent voice. Then, DSH! Another sound even closer this time. I quickly started practicing summoning the shadows as the hunters came nearer and nearer. I learned that I could make my shadows slither to any object or person and make it do whatever I wanted. I caught Donny by surprise and made him punch himself several times. I laughed.

          " Zach!," he yelled as he created a small,blue lightning bolt out of thin air." You'll pay for that." He threw it at me and I dodged it by five inches. I made a sphere of shadows appear in my hand and I blasted it at him. He flipped over as a result. He speedily got up and shot a beam of lightning from his fist. ZZJJJJCHHH! I tried to run but the beam was too fast. It shocked me and I knew that I was paralyzed. I was shaking from head to toe. Donny ran to punch me but he froze. I had caught him with my shadow trick. I made him run at a tree. The instant he did that, the effects of the lightning wore off. Donny suddenly started to laugh but was interrupted. 

                           " Time to play kiddies," a squeaky voice announced.
