Patronus Charm

Sarafina's POV

"You asked to see me Professor Lupin" I state as I enter the history of magic classroom just before eight o'clock Thursday evening. School had just started back up after the Christmas holidays and I received a note from Professor Lupin asking to met him here at this time. I noticed he had a big chest next to him and heard something inside it. "Is that another boggart?" I ask while leaning against a wall.

"Yes it is and I asked you here to help me teach Harry the Patronus Charm" Lupin states. "Since you were able to do it on your own and are his age, I thought it would help him learn" he explains. Just as Harry enters the room and he looks at me in surprise.

"Professor Lupin asked me to help teach you the patronus charm" I state and Harry nods his head in understanding. Professor Lupin then explains the function of the patronus charm and how to produce a patronus. Then asked me to demonstrate so I thought of the time my Dad won the prize money and told us we were going to Egypt to see Bill. "Expecto Patronum" I state waving my wand and my mountain lion patronus appeared running around the room. Before stopping beside me and I smiled at it as it disappeared.

"Before you ask Harry, no your patronus won't look like that. A patronus is unique to the witch or wizard who casts it" I explain. Harry nodded his head in thanks as Lupin looked surprised I knew want Harry was thinking. "I think we are ready to begin Professor" I state changing the subject.

"Of course, now Harry I couldn't bring a real dementor into the school. But I got something that will work just fine" Lupin explains gesturing to the box. Harry looks confused and I answer his unasked question again.

"It's a boggart Harry, when it sees you it will turn into a dementor that you can practice the patronus charm with. Isn't that right professor Lupin?" I ask raising an eyebrow.

"Correct, why don't you raise your hand in class more often Sarafina?" Lupin asks.

"I'm more then happy to let others take the credit as I get enough out on the Quidditch pitch" I explain and he nods his head smiling. Then turned back to Harry telling him to think of a happy memory while saying the incantation 'expecto patronum'. Harry did so and soon some sliver mist appeared from his wand tip.

"Did you see that?" Harry asks in excitement "something happened".

"Very good Harry, it took me weeks to get even a few wisps of mist" I state proud of his accomplishment. This made me see how much better it is to have someone teach you, rather then learn a spell on your own. My compliment lifted Harry's spirits more and Lupin sent me a warm thankful smile.

"Yes very good Harry, are you ready to try it on a dementor?" Lupin asks. Harry nods his head and Lupin looks at me. "Be ready to cast a patronus if he fails to stop the dementor the first time" he states. I nod my head getting my wand at the ready as Lupin looked back at Harry. "On three, one two three" he counts and opens the chest revealing the boggart dementor.

Harry tried to produced a patronus, but obviously wasn't thinking a strong enough memory. As he fell to the ground and I stepped in thinking of the time we won the House Cup in our first year. My mountain lion pushed the boggart dementor back into the chest and Lupin locked it. He then waked Harry giving us each a piece of chocolate.

Lupin asked him want memory he was thinking of and Harry said the first time he rode a broom. But Lupin said it wasn't strong enough and Harry asked want I thought of. "The first time it was the time my parents informed my brothers and I about winning the prize money. Just now I thought of when we won the House Cup in our first year" I explain.

They nodded their heads and Harry tries again, but fails. I lock the chest as Harry was telling Lupin how he just heard his father's voice. Lupin then explains how he was friends with Harry's dead during his school years. "I shouldn't have agreed to this, the magic is far to advanced for you" Lupin mumbles.

"Not true Professor, if I can do it on my own. Then Harry can do it" I state.

"She's right, I am just not thinking of a strong enough memory. I have one more I'd like to try tonight" Harry states firmly. Lupin gives in and opens the chest again. This time Harry does it, but it wasn't a corporeal patronus. It did protect him from the dementor. Lupin gave us each chocolate and sent us on our way.

However, Harry stayed behind to ask Lupin something about Sirius Black. I didn't get to see Padfoot that night, but sent a school owl with some food for him. Harry soon caught up to me and we walked back to the common room together. When we got there he informed Ron and Hermione of want had happened during our lesson with Lupin. Then joined them to finish off our homework.

(February)

The quidditch against Ravenclaw is approaching fast and Harry keeps asking McGonagall when he'd get his firebolt back. She just says he'll get it when they are finished and to stop badgering her. I still helped Lupin and Harry with their patronus lessons. And still see Padfoot when I can. Which is becoming difficult with approaching exams and Buckbeak's hearing. Hermione and I have been trying to find information on how to save him.

Today Lupin explained want the dementors kiss was making me shiver. Especially when Harry said Sirius Black deserved that fate. Now we were walking back to the common room when McGonagall appears. She gave Harry back his Firebolt telling him to get a good feel of it before our next match.

We reached the common room and walk over to Hermione. Harry tells her he has his broom back and she was happy it wasn't jinxed. Ron then took the Firebolt upstairs as I sat next to Hermione pulling out my homework. She was doing her Muggle Studies homework while I started my Potions homework. Suddenly Ron comes back holding a bed sheet looking livid.

"Scabbers is gone, look blood and want to know want I found on the ground?!" he asks Hermione & I yelling. We shake our heads and Hermione is trembling. Ron threw something on mine and Hermione's work. Harry, Hermione and I lean in for a better look. To see several ginger cat hairs and several cream colour ones. Ron storms away and Harry goes to try calm him down, while I comfort Hermione taking her and our stuff to our dorm.
