(4 Years Later)
Karkat's bedroom door banged open against the wall, probably leaving a small dent from the knob. He groaned and buried his face further into his pillow when something heavy got tossed onto his back.
"Wow, the room looks even messier than I remember, it didn't look like this when I was here!" Kankri's voice boomed, and Karkat glared at him from under his mess of bangs. He sat up, pushing Kankri's bag off of him as ge did so.
"Well maybe that's because I have better things to do than to spend my waking hours organizing all of my shit like some obsessuve-compulsive nerd without any friends," he leaned over the ege of the bed and unplugged his phone from the charger. There weren't any texts from Kankri saying that he was on his way home, but Karkat knew he was because their dad had informed him earlier that week.
Since going off to college, Karkat had their shared room all to himself, tbe only traces of his older brother being the spare bed, the nightstand that held a spare Bible, and the clothes hung up in half of the closet that were left behind. Kankri literally took everything else, and Karkat figured that he was lucky that the dorm was so big, otherwise his roommates would probably be pretty pissy.
"Well, get out of bed and go to school, I'm stealing yours until you get back tonight," Kankri was already taking off his shirt, yawning. He only managed to come home if a kid from his dorm complex was either coming into their town for the weekend or passing through it, and apparently they liked to leave campus before dawn to avoid morning traffic. Which meant that Kankri would be getting to the house between 5-6:00 in the morning, exhausted.
Karkat groaned louder as he pulled out of his warm cocoon of sheets and blankets, grabbing his things for a shower, his bleary eyes trying to adjust to the dark as he left, listening to his brother get cozy in his bed.
Turning on the bathroom light was hell to his eyes, little spots of color dancing around in the florescent room. As the warm water ran down his still muscles he washed his hair and lathered up in Old Spice body wash, hating how early it was.
Stepping out into the mist, he dried his body, dressed, and hurrued to his room. By this point a little bit of gray light was seeping in through the window, giving him enough light to find his hair brush and blow dryer.
After doing his hair, applying deodorant and brushing his teeth, he spritzed on some cologne. He found his gray hoodie, knowing that the October air was starting to get nippy. He put on his shoes by the door and ducked outside with his bag, remembering to lock the front door. The walk to school was lonely without his brother at first, but he adapted quickly, and liked the quiet every morning.
Upon getting to the school building he jogged up the staircases that led to the high school portion that set them apart from the giddy middle schoolers below. He found his locker, grabbed a few books and took his time to class, time to spare before the bell rang.
As the class filed inside the room, he sat in the center beside Sollux, who was no much more of a morning person than Karkat was, so not much was spoken till the end of class anyway.
The day had nothing characteristic about it, and was just as bland as it was any other day. He spent 4th period with Terezi, lunch with Sollux, Eridan, Dave, and Kanaya, and 6th period with Jade. She was a major science enthusiast, so it helped to have her in that subject because he got lost pretty easily.
When the final bell rang at last, he was hurrying down the massive stairs when Sollux and Eridan sidled on either side of him. "KK, you should come over after school with us today, I want you to be there as a witness to Ampora's crying when he sees me beat his high score in the final boss battle," Sollux invited, the lights on his sneakers glowing red, blue, red, blue unrythmatically. Weren't those meant for raves? Aradia had given to him and Sollux had purposely made it to where the lights didn't sync up together.
"As much fun as it'd be to personally witniss your guy's ongoing uncomfortable sexual frustration, I can't. Kankri is back in town and you know how dad makes us all stay in to catch up," Although Karkat knew that Kankri was itching to go find some of his friends that had gone to school here in town.
Eridan scoffed beside Karkat, "For there to be sexual tension, there has to be sexual interest, which Sollux holds none of,"
"Says the guy who couldn't find a date for Junior prom!" Quipped Sollux.
"Oh please, I bet I can find one this year, maybe I'll ask Fef,"
"Doesn't count if you know the girl! Or if she feels bad enough for you that she'd actually go because she knows how pathetic you are,"
"See," interrupted Karkat, "This is what I was talking about, just go make out already."
Eridan rolled his eyes and nudged Karkat with his shoulder, "I nearly forgot to tell you about the Halloween party being thrown this Saturday. Rose is inviting anyone over, and I know you have nothing planned, so I can pick you and Sol up at 6,"
"Pick a cool costume! I don't wanna suffer fron second hand embarrassment because of you!" Sollux shouted from the parking lot, hopping into his car with Aradia.
A high school Halloween party. Great.
