A.N. Because of a certain person (You know who you are!) I decided to update as soon as I could, so hopefully this chapter lives up to ❤

Karkat twisted in front of the mirror, inspecting his costume. He had truthfully just thrown some things together that he had rummaged around for, too broke and last minute to get an actual costume. He wasn't going for anything lavish or kid-like, and trying to decide on whether he was fine or should look for something else.
"A burgler? Really?" Came the unimpressed voice of Kankri who had barged into the room without warning. Karkat nearly jumped off of both feet and whirled around to glare at his brother.
"A theif, actually," he snapped. He turned back to the mirror, inspecting the outfit again. He had just thrown on a pair of black jeans and matching shoes, a striped black and white shirt that belonged to his dad, and a beanie that he had to dig through Kankri's side of the closet to find. He hated actually looking for things and nearly gave up more times than he was willing to admit. The costume looked fine, it was just a high school party anyway, it's not like everyone was going out of their way to stand out.
"You should put on some eyeliner, I think it might help pull everything together," suggested Kankri as he settled down on his mattress with a small book. Karkat moved his bangs off of his forehead and thought about that for a moment. Kankri was probably right.
"I'll see if Eridan has any for his costume, if not then Lalonde will," he mused. Eridan was more likely to have eyeliner than Sollux was. Then, turning to Kankri he said, "What, no parties for you?"
His brother turned a page in his book, "Later, after Latula gets off work,"
"What are you going as?"
Kankri scoffed, "Probably nothing, you know I hate dressing up,"
There was a vibrating sound from the nightstand, and Kankri tossed Karkat his phone, "Fish Fucker texted you," he read the ID out loud. Then, "Why is that his name in your contacts?"
"I like how you already know who it is," Karkat flipped open his phone, clicking on the message icon, "Because he says he's a Pisces, I figured it fit," Kankri rolled his eyes.
"How lewd,"
The phone snapped shut, "He's here, I'll see you tonight, don't wait up for me, I have a spare key," Karkat called as he treaded down the stairs and ripped open the front door, pausing to lock it behind him before hopping in Eridan's front seat.
"Dude," Eridan instantly began, "what even are you?"
"Obviously a burgler or theif or whatever. Do you have any eyeliner in here?" Karkat began to rummage around in the center console.
"No, I left it at the house, you should've asked in advance,"
They drove across town towards Sollux's apartment complex, parking infront of the iron gates while Eridan watched Karkat text him that they were there.
"Un-BEE-lievable? You suck at contact names,"
"Shut up Fish Fucker," he quipped as Sollux climbed into the backseat. "Dude, Karkat, what the fuck are you supposed to be?"
Karkat groaned in exasperation, leaning his head against the cold glass window.
They had to go to the outskirts of town to get to the Lalonde house, which was that perfect size for a huge holiday party. The house was lit up and cars were already packed together in a long line, which was going to be a bitch to work out of, Karkat knew. It wasn't until the trio got out that Karkat was able to see their costumes.
Eridan was a pirate, boots and everything, even the blouse and big hat and eyepatch. Sollux wore big headphones around his neck, a beanie and glasses where the lens were two different colors. He had on a shirt that said party time! In big, outlandish colors and his light up shoes.
"I'm a DJ," he explained briefly, noticing their staring. Karkat shook his head. And Sollux made fun of his outfit!
Rose was at the door with Dave greeting guests inside, welcoming the boys inside and pointing towards the huge living room that held tables full of food, mostly sweets and chips, it looked like. "Lalonde, got any eyeliner I can borrow?" Karkat wasted no time in asking.
"In the bathroom off to the left side of the hall upstairs, it should be in one of the drawers," she directed, and Karkat called out a thanks over the strum of music.
He had to wait in the hall until someone came out, tapping his fingers against his arm boredly. As soon as the person left he dove in, shutting the door behind him and muffling the music outside. He dug through the drawers, hurriedly drawing a line on the bottom of each of his eyelids, capping it, and tossing it back to where it belonged.
He paused, staring at his reflection, studying his crude makeup job. It brought out the reddish brown of his eyes, Kankri made the right call on this one, he mused.
He turned off the light and stepped back out into the party, finding his friends in the quickly over crowding living room, tossing in candy into their mouths, handing him a Milky Way when he sidled up. They were talking about something that didn't catch his interest, probably an anime Eridan was recommending, no doubt.
They were at the party for a good two hours, mingling around with the other guests. Terezi had shown up, dressed up as a shattered doll that fit her petite stature well, accompanied by Vriska, who was also a pirate. That earned a high five from Eridan, naturally. Kanaya, her arm wrapped around Witch Rose's waist, was a vampire.
Aradia was a zombie, and as soon as she showed up Sollux invited her to hang out with the three of them, not wanting to leave his girlfriend out. Another 30 minutes went by before they found Kankri, who had a pair of devil horns on top of his dark hair, simply saying blandly, "Latula said it would match my sweater." Latula hung off of Mituna's arm, dressed as a gypsy. Karkat laughed at him, and had to rush off before Kankri's hand swung out to smack him.
He was still chuckling when he looped back into the living room, noticing his friends had stayed behind to talk to Sollux's older brother. His smile was beginning to wear off when a voice in front of him asked, "What's so funny? Besides your choice in costume, of course,"
Karkat whipped around, glaring up at the person in front of him. The guy was taller than him, a lot. He was very lean and casual looking, hands in his pockets and wild, messy hair...that looked like it had never been brushed...
Karkat's heart stuttered suddenly, twisting up in shocking fear. Because, in front of him with a bored grin and lazy eyes, was Gamzee fucking Makara.
Oh, fuck me.

A.N. So what do you think? I don't know what's up with me updating after midnight, Jesus. But tell me what you think! Have any ideas for future chapters? Drop me a comment! Maybe I'll use it, who knows? The next chapter, or the one after it, will probably be about Kankri and Kurloz, because, of course, the Makara boys have to ruin good vibes lol
