The Perfect Timing

Chapter 6

"Hi Juls! Ang aga mo today ah?" I kissed her cheek before sitting on the chair beside her.

"Maayos tulog ko eh," she turned to face me. "Did you talk to Luke na? Kung bakit hindi ka nya nasundo last night?"

"Yeah. He said he had to meet this client para maayos yung project nila, then dead batt na phone nya so," I told her habang inilalabas ko mga gamit ko for our first class.

"Ahh. Okay. San tayo mag lunch later?" Natawa na lang kaming dalawa sa tanong nya. Hindi naman masyadong obvious na we love food no?

"I'm craving for pizza," I pouted.

"Pizza it is," 10 minutes after, dumating na ang instructor namin.

At 5pm, palabas na kami ng room. Julia and I are both tired from our classes, which was sinabayan pa ng thesis namin, so none of us were talking papuntang parking lot.

I took my phone out coz I felt it buzzing on the front pocket of my jeans. Luke's calling.

"Hello?" Nag stop kami saglit ni Julia sa may gilid ng poste malapit sa parking lot.

"Hi baby. Uhm. It's me. Nandito ako sa parking lot. Wait, I see you. Turn around, baby," I did just as he said. And I saw him na nakasandal sa car nya. He was holding a bouquet of roses in his hands.

"Hey, I missed you," I ran to hug him.

"Hey, easy there, baby. Baka bumaliktad tayo nito," He chuckled. I let go of my arms. "Sorry ulit last night," He gave me the flowers.

"It's okay baby. I told you last night diba? You didn't have to get me this, but thank you," I smiled at him as he pulled me in for a kiss.

"Ehem," we both turned to look at Juls na mukhang bored na at naaawkward.

"Oh, hey Juls," bumeso si Luke kay Juls.

"Luke, you're early today," there was a hint of sarcasm in Jul's voice. She was teasing him for yesterday, may pagka-overprotective lang ang best friend ko.

"Sorry naman, may.. emergency kahapon eh," napakamot na lang si Luke sa ulo nya. "Libre na lang kita ng food, let's all have dinner together. Game?"

"Oh, I'll pass this time Luke. I'll be having dinner with Mom sa bahay eh. Enjoy na lang kayo okay?" Lumapit si Juls sakin para mahug ako. "Ingat kayo ah? Alagaan mo yan, kung hindi uupakan kita," tinawanan na lang sya ni Luke.

"Ingat ka bes," we waved at her as she walked towards her car.

"Babe, you want to go to the mall ngayon? Let's have dinner there?" I asked him pagkasakay namin sa car nya. Palabas na kami ng campus ngayon.

"Babe, are you okay?" I tapped his shoulders nung hindi nya ako sinagot.

"U-uhm, yes, b-babe. I-I'm fine," he held my hand, which was on his shoulder, and looked at me, "I love you."

"I love you, too, babe. Ang random mo ngayon. Anong nakain mo?" I smiled at him.

He took my hand and brought it to his lips to kiss it. "Wala. Hindi ba pwedeng maglambing sa girlfriend ko?"

"Hay nako. Just drive babe, okay?" Umiling na lang ako. Soon enough we arrived at his place. He told me he's going to cook dinner na lang for us.

"Baby, that looks so yummy," lumapit ako kay Luke. He's cooking chicken adobo, my favorite.

"I bet it tastes yummy too, babe. Parang ako lang," he turned and winked at me.

"Sira ka talaga. Tignan mo pinagpapawisan ka na. Let me get you some towel from your room, okay?"

"Thanks, babe. I'm almost finished na din. Matitikman mo na tong masterpiece ko," he grinned at me. Natatawa na lang akong nagpunta sa room nya.

Dumiretso ako sa closet nya. I sighed at the mess. Inayos ko saglit yung mga damit nya, then looked for a towel. Palabas na sana ako when a lavender envelope on the carpet caught my eye. I picked it up but then nahulog yung laman, which was a wedding invitation, nung natitigan ko. Moses & Maurine was written on the front side of the card, the date also indicated that the wedding will be in a month. I was about to open it nung bumukas yung pinto.

"Baby, what's taking you so long—" napahinto sya nung nakita nya yung hawak ko.

"Oh, inayos ko yung mga damit mo sa closet, magulo na naman babe. Also, I saw this," I held the wedding invitation up.

"Oh, t-that. U-Uhm, I saw M-Maurine y-yesterday, dun sa.. where I met with my client," he seemed uneasy.

"Oh, Maurine? Yung awkward schoolmate mo from the other night? Oh, so they're getting married pala. Pupunta ka?" I put the invitation on his bedside table and moved closer to him para mapunasan ang pawis nya with the towel.

"N-No. B-Busy ako nun babe. Sa Batangas pa yung venue. Tsaka.. h-hindi din naman kami close nun diba?" I shrugged and led him to the dining table, gutom na ako.

"Sure ka hindi ka na bababa babe?" I asked him when we stopped in front of our house.

"Hindi na babe, baka magtagal pa ako sa loob, maaga ako sa work tomorrow eh," he moved closer para tanggalin ang seatbelt ko.

"Okay. Thanks for the dinner babe. Ingat ka sa pag-drive ha? Text me when you get home, okay?" I held his face with both of my hands.

"Yes po. I love you, Max," I closed my eyes as he moved to kiss me. "No matter what happens, please know that I love you, okay?" he kissed me on my forehead as I smiled. And I swear that statement alone made me forget all the things that's been bothering me since the other night.
