CHAPTER 11
I fished for my phone in my pocket, which kept on buzzing since this morning. I just didn't want to talk to him muna coz I know I'll be distracted and it won't be good for my exams.
'Babe, I've been trying to contact you kanina pa. Can you at least let me know if you're okay, please? I missed you, and I'm sorry I've been busy these past few weeks. Can I please see you today?'
That was Luke's message to me. I didn't have the energy to reply, so I put my phone inside my bag.
"Oh, yan lang kakainin mo?" Julia gestured to the tuna sandwich in front of me. "May sakit ka ba bes?" She reached out to touch my forehead with the back of her hand. I lightly slapped her hand away.
"Sira. Wala lang akong gana," I rolled my eyes at her. Nandito kami ngayon sa cafeteria.
"Nice try, Max. Kilala kita. May problema ka no?" She finally sat down and prepared to eat her food, which consisted of rice and adobo, lumpia, and leche flan. I know, she doesn't really eat much.
"I'm fine, okay? Stressed lang sa exams kanina," I shook my head and started to eat as well.
"Weh? Baka stressed kay Luke?" she shot me a look. "Bes, hindi nya ako tinigilan kagabi and kaninang umaga kahit na sinabi kong okay ka lang. He told me earlier that he badly wants to see you and talk to you, so I told him na matatapos yung exams natin mamayang 2:30," she grimaced as she looked at me guiltily.
I sighed. "That's okay, bes. I doubt he'll come and see me later. Busy sya, remember?" I shrugged. Julia looked at me sympathetically.
"Oh well. Enough of the drama. Magkwento ka. How was your ride back home yesterday?" I wiggled my eyebrows at her.
She rolled her eyes. "Ugh. It was terrible! I don't even want to remember!" She put her hands on her face as she blushed.
"What? What happened? I thought sobrang nag-enjoy kayo? Antagal nga nakabalik ni Kuya eh." I giggled.
"It took him a long time because there was a road construction just outside of our village! Can you believe that? Ugh. Your Kuya just witnessed my socially-awkward-self blabber and stutter nonstop! I swear hindi ko mabilang kung ilang beses ko hiniling na lamunin ng lupa right then and there! Ugh. I hate myself!"
"Haha! Ano ka ba bes! You're so adorable kaya when you're blabbering. I'm sure Kuya finds you cute as well," I winked at her.
"You think so?" She peeked through her hands at me.
"Well, wala syang sinabi," she quickly sighed and rolled her eyes at me. "But, I know my Kuya. I told you na, right? He likes cute and shy girls kaya. Like you," I winked at her again.
"Tss. You're wrong kaya. Max, have you seen the girls he's dated before? They're all so pretty, and sexy, and so girlfriend material," she pouted and played with her food. "And then there's me, the awkward girl who can finish up all these food in front of her," she gestured to her food.
"Hoy, don't damay the food naman bes. Food is life kaya," I tried to take a bit of her leche flan with my fork, when she slapped my hand.
"I know! And I love food. And that's my food," she glared at me.
"Damot," I pouted.
"Joke lang bes. You know I love you and we both promised each other to not let the other be hungry. Kaya ayan oh, hating kapatid," she blew a kiss at me after she sliced her leche flan into two unequal pieces.
"Bes, you know I love you too ha. Pero ang hating kapataid, dapat equal. Ano yan?"
"Bes, sa'yo yung mas malaki. Alam ko namang hindi ka tumataba. Starting from now, mag-diet na ako. Para naman pumantay sa mga naging ex ng Kuya mo!"
