Epilogue
Hermes raised his champagne glass and started the wedding toast. “To my best friend, Morpheus you are so out of your league…” There was loud cheering and laughing inside the hall brimming with gods and mortals alike, none cheering as loud as Stefano who was just happy Morpheus had decided to keep him around as a personal assistant instead of shipping him back to Tartarus, “...and I wish you all the happiness and joy of such a blessed union in this life and the next, old friend.”
Everyone applauded as they drank from gold rimmed champagne flutes. Hermes caught Aphrodite’s eyes and lifted his empty glass in silent salute.
To a job well done, he seemed to say.
Aphrodite inclined her head and cut her eyes over to Hades who sat beside Hypnos at the Gods’ table. The Lords of the Underworld looked unusually relaxed and at ease amongst so many people. Then again, they had just as much to do with getting Morpheus and Gwen-Stacey together as she did.
True love didn’t just happen – sometimes, it really did take a village.
And they had every reason to celebrate for the Underworld had never been stronger or more unified in its history. There was balance and peace among the Oneiroi as well as the human souls and other beings that co-existed on the lower plane. Hera and Artemis were facing the Fates for their crimes which appeased the more-than-a-little miffed angel squad and their heavenly CEO. Not to mention it would ensure no one would be seeing either goddess for the next fifty years give or take - something even Zeus was thankful for and found good cause to celebrate at Morpheus' wedding.
The Underworld gods looked over and gave the goddess the smallest, most imperceptible of nods in return. Aphrodite smiled and raised her glass in their direction before clinking it lightly to her son’s and taking a dainty sip.
To a job well done indeed.
