It's the day of the duet competition and Riley and I are just going over our choreography in a practice room at the venue.
"Hey, James," She whispers pulling me aside from the people who came to watch us from the studio, "Dance hasn't been in my life for that long as it has for you but it has meant so much to me and I wouldn't have met you without it,"
I smile sadly at her, things are not the same as they were before.
"I'm going to be leaving dance after this..." Riley finishes
I take her hands, "I understand, let's make this count, alright? Don't even worry about it, Riley,"
She smiles at me.
"Can the Next Step make their way to the stage?"
I glance at Riley and she takes my hand as we make our way through the members of what used to be A-troupe. West, Noah and Eldon pat me on the back and we both give Miss Kate a big hug.
The crowd goes silent as we make our way onto the stage. They haven't heard of The Next Step dance studio but now we are going to show them what we stand for.
The music starts playing.
We are preforming the duet I did with Michelle at Regionals but we switched up the choreography to fit both of our dance styles.
This duet was made for Riley.
I originally choreographed it but Riley made it better, she included ideas that emphasised the story of this dance.
It's now more then just connections. It's about how we can't deny it. We will always, always find our way back to each other.
I've never been sure of anything in my life but I know for sure that me and Riley will always be together.
We finish the dance and the crowd all stands up, clapping and cheering. The judges thank us and we go back to where our team is standing in the sidelines. They all give us a big hug and we all gather in one circle.
I look at the faces: West, Noah, Eldon, Daniel, Thalia, Chloe, Giselle, Michelle, Miss Kate and Riley.
This was our A-troupe and I wouldn't swap it for anything else.
We place our hands in the middle, "3, 2, 1 The Next Step!"
We spend the rest of the day waiting for the results and watching the other duets. It's amazing how much chemistry everyone has when they are on stage. I wonder if anyone was thinking the same when Riley and I preformed.
I glance over at her talking to the girls.
Eldon sits down next to me, we haven't talked much after I shouted at him when I thought he like Riley.
"Bro, I'm so sorry for what I did,"
"It's okay, man. It was just a stupid misunderstanding... You must really love Riley a lot because you shouted at me pretty hard," Eldon laughs and slaps me playfully on the back
I laugh with him, "I give you permission to date Michelle, only if your man enough to ask her out!"
Eldon shakes his head, "Thanks man, I really appreciate it,"
Miss Kate approaches us excitedly, "They are about to announce the winners!"
We all sit in front of the stage, "Thank you to all the dancers who preformed but the winner goes to... James and Riley from The Next Step!"
I get up with Riley following behind me. I'm so happy right now, the feeling is unimaginable.
We accept the trophy and our team comes up on the stage with us as we celebrate.
Last dance or not. This has been an incredible part of my life.
