Victor tapped my arm with the back of his hand as I left the trailer. I startled, tripping over my feet before North caught me around the collarbone with his forearm. My face pressed in his shoulder and I squeaked as my nose stuffed uncomfortably into his black tee shirt. The scent of soap and musk gave me a pause, but I quickly pulled away to right myself.

Victor had a hand placed over his mouth, but the tell-tail scrunch of his cheeks told me he was smiling. I frowned at him, embarrassed. I ran a hand through my hair, shifting on my feet to put distance between myself and the two boys.

"Hey, Seth," Victor cleared his throat. I was thankful he was ignoring the situation. "You have any plans for lunch?"

I blinked at him. "Um..." I swallowed. "No. I-I didn't bring anything." Truthfully, I had thought about spending lunch in the library like I did Mr. Blackbourne's class and study hall.

Victor shook his head, glancing once at North before giving me a hard look. "You've got to eat."

I shrugged. "Can't do anything about it now," I said quietly. I pulled my lip between my teeth before letting it go. "But... I'd like to say sorry to Gabriel for freaking out on him this morning."

"I told you it's fine." North rumbled. His black hair was mussed, showing off a gold hoop in his ear that I hadn't noticed before. I looked closer at him for the first time. I'd been a little afraid of him when we met yesterday that I hadn't taken a good, long look at North, but now that I could- and knew he wasn't going to shiv me for it- I realized that North wasn't the tall, dark and scary man I had thought he was. He was just... tall and dark. And maybe a little handsome.

North had dark hair and equally dark eyes. His shoulders were wide, stretching out the dark tee-shirt he wore, his biceps looking twice as large as they actually were with the material concaving into the dips and ridges. Even his jeans, snug to his legs, made him seem taller. But definitely not as tall as Silas.

I sucked in a deep breath and looked away. I couldn't think things like that. Even if he was attractive, I doubted he was gay- and even if he was...

I couldn't date anyone, I reminded myself. I knew that and my mother made sure of it. But thoughts of a boys attractiveness, it was a new and odd thing to think about. I'd never had the chance to think about boys at my old school. I was too busy staying as far away from the spotlight as I could, but now that I was 'Seth', it seemed really impossible to date- or even like a boy. My mother made sure of that.

"Seth?" Victor called, jerking me out of my thoughts. He stood a few steps up the path, looking back with North at his side. "You coming?" I nodded and hurried forward, into the small space between the boys. When my shoulders were even with theirs, they started forward again. I had to take two steps to match one of theirs, but it took less time to make it to the courtyard then it usually would have on my own.

"Why do you guys have to have such long legs." I muttered, tripping over my feet for the third time as we made it to the main sidewalk. I caught myself, but faltered when North looked down at me. His brows were raised and his mouth was drawn in to a strict line that almost gave way to a smile.

"You're just short," He said.

My mouth dropped open. "Hey!" I protested. "I'm not that short!"

Victor sputtered out a chuckle. "You're the shortest sixteen year old I've ever met."

I pressed my lips together and focused on my feet. I was average height... for a girl anyway. It wasn't my fault I had short legs.
