Well, my first story to ever be read be someone else. That doesn't involve family or friends. I need your opinion. Liek now. Please. And thank you. :D

Chapter 1: Together Against the World

I stared at my closed locker waiting for the bell to ring. It was the last day of school and I had not one plan for the summer break, at least, not until about ten minutes ago. I was foolish to even consider excepting an offer to a party.

Especially, if it was from my sworn enemy, Kamryn, since I was five. She had spilt milk in my hair and embarrassed me in front of all of my friends, just because I pushed her down on the playground. My friends still laugh about the fact that I was dripping from head to toe in the school's spoiled milk.

I knew going will probably just get me even more legendary stories until I'm through with high school. I guess it was me wanting to just get out of the house for one day. Or it might have been that most of my friends were spending the night there.

I rested my head against my locker and breathed in the dusty hallways of Buna Junior High. Ten more minutes and I was out of here for good. I just turned seventeen about a month ago.

Locked in my own little world, which I seem to visit very often, I didn't notice when my best friend, Xavier, popped up beside me and punched me in the shoulder. I sprang forward trying to steady myself, but only head-butting my locker. I crumpled to the floor and let out a moan.

"Nova," Xavier gasped as pulled me to my feet. Now that we were getting older, I began to notice the littlest things, like him pulling me into his arms without even straining.

As his eyes filled with guilt he said, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you and make you fall."

"It's okay. I just wasn't paying attention."

He looked really excited about something, so I asked, "What's got you so flowing with happiness?"

Still holding me, he stared at me with those big blue eyes. The same look he had given me when we first met. The look that said, "I need you to stick with me."

It's true. When we met I had no friends and one family member. I was a foster child, moving from place to place. I got tired of not being wanted and while staying with a family in California, I ran away. Traveled all the way to Texas, using the money I managed to snatch from each of the families I encountered.

I stopped for the night in a place called Silsbee. Ran into a small, steady woman and she offered let me stay with her. Eventually, she adopted me and sent me to a school in Buna. That's where I met Xavier. He was nice to me and always sat by me at lunch.

Of course, you would think that he was the popular type, but no. He was actually the opposite. He had chestnut blond hair, perfectly straight always. The girls fell in love with his sparkling, sky-blue eyes. I can admit, I was one of those girls, but of course he wouldn't date someone like me.

I had honey-brown, long hair, with hazel-brown-green eyes. In my opinion, I was quite attractive, but any guy that tried to get close to me, I pushed away. They just weren't my type, but they seemed to disagree. That's how we met actually.

I was trying to push away another creep, literally push him away. He was getting to close. And Xavier helped me. He spun him around and punched him in the face. Immediately after, Xavier pushed me out the door and we ran down the street, hand in hand. From then on, my life felt like a fairy-tale.

The hottest guy in school was my best friend. What girl wouldn't want that?

Xavier snapped his fingers in front of my face to pull me out of my daze. "Hello? Is there anyone home?"

"Pssh! Yes, Darling," I whispered in his ear, "I'm just spending my last minutes of this place thinking about the past."

"Well, forget about that for the time-being and focus on me for a second. Will you?"

"Sorry. I was thinking again. What did you say?"

"Well, then I guess you don't want to go to New Mexico with me." He looked around absent-mindedly.

"What? Huh?"

"Do you want to go to New Mexico with me? I'm not taking no for an answer. Either come willingly or I could just drag you there." He shrugged his shoulders in a careless fashion like kidnapping was a natural thing people did. Well, people like us, with no criminal records.

"I can't believe you want to take me with you!" I threw my arms around Xavier's neck and hugged him. I finally had different plans than going to some stupid party. I was going skiing for two months in New Mexico. Awesome! The best part was that I was going with Xavier.

"Of course i would! It's me and you against the world, remember?" The final school bell rang and Xavier backed out of the way as all the students hustled by with excitement. He finally set me down and said, "You better hurry home and pack. We leave first thing tomorrow. My mom will pick you up tonight at eight." And with that he was gone.

I stared at the empty space in which Xavier was almost a minute ago. New Mexico? I thought as I slipped out of the school and onto the pavement of the sidewalk.

In the small town of Buna, the summers were filled with so much greenery. The sun shone like the eyes of hungry children. The skies were always clear. Not one cloud, raincloud or the big white puffy ones, this wouldn't be the season to lie on the grass and make shapes out of the sky.

The amazingly red antique car that my "mom" owned pulled up beside me. "Get in."

"I want to walk home."

"I said get in." She was always bossing me around like this.

"I am walking and I wanted to ask you something."

"What? I don't have time for this."

"Can I go to New Mexico with Xavier tonight? We are supposed to leave in the morning, but his-"

"Stop! You are not going anywhere with that boy!"

"Please?"

"NO!"

"Fine." I kept walking without looking back.

As I began to near home, I spotted the bushes tremble. I slowly approached it and pushed the leaves aside. I heard a girl's voice say, "Get in the bush now."

"Why?"

"The cops are coming and you will get blamed."

"For what? I didn't do anything!" I took a step back and glanced down the road.

Several police cars came around the corner and began to head our way. I turned back to the talking bush and finally saw the girl's face; high cheekbones, hazel eyes just like mine, but closer together, and the same exact hair. Great. My look-alike is a criminal. Our eyes locked for a moment before she disappeared.
