Chapter Four: Together Against the World

I opened my eyes groggily to the sound of Xavier's voice. He wispered my name unsteadyily, like he would hurt my ears if he spoke too loud. I reached for him and found the collar of his shirt. I pulled him down to me and wrapped my arms around his neck. I squeezed him to me. "Wow. I have missed you."

"Obviously." He murmured into my ear. "I thought i lost you. The docter said.." His voice trailed away, a look of pure pain planted on his face. "I just don't know what i would have done without you."

"Well, it doesn't matter now. I'm fine." I smiled, but inside i was hurting. When i grabbed him, i was going to kiss him, but that might not have been a good idea. So a hug happened instead.

"Are you sure your okay? I should go get the doctor." He started to pull away, but my good arm just wouldn't release him.

"Not yet. Don't leave me. Please. Don't. "

"Never." He murmured into my ear. His lips were soft as his kissed my cheek and slowly detached me from him. He was gone before i said anything else.

I slowly closed my eyes with a smile. Man! How sleepy am i? My mind began to venture to what would have happened if i actually did kiss him. I sat up with a start. No! I can't think about this! He is my best friend! It just wouldn't work! I swung my legs over the side of the bed and my bare feet rested on the cold, tile floor.

I looked at the door, preparing to make a run for it. I was tired of being in a stupid hospital, with stupid doctors, that stupidly tried to take care of me, even though I DON'T NEED IT!!! I stood and wobbled slightly before regaining my balance and hobbled forward, toward the door.

I heard a voice, not my own or anyone's that i knew. It was smooth and it sounded like bells ringing. It was a beautiful sound, "Stop. You don't need to be afraid. I am here to take care of you." I turned around slowly.

"Sorry. I didn't-" What i saw was the most beautiful thing that ever exsisted, aside from Xavier. It glowed so brightly that i had to shield my eyes. I looked at the floor and cowered in a corner. " What are you?"

"Sweetie, I, Angel of Darkness or otherwise known as a Demon, am your biggest nightmare." I hovered closer, close enough that i could just make out the stench of rotting flesh. I plugged my nose and inched towards the door.

"Leave me alone, You Filthy Creature!" I fumbled with the door and i tried to pry it open.

"Oh! Don't bother trying to run. It just won't work. I have locked the door, or more like jammed it." It grinned with it's pointed teeth. It hovered closer and i let out a scream, my biggest defense weapon. My scream always got people to cover their ears and sometimes made their eyes water. I never understood it.

He flinched and doubled over in pain. "Stop!" I didn't. "Stop and i will free you!" I stopped and glanced at him before opening my mouth to let out another scream. It's boney hand shot out and covered my mouth. "What are you?" It eyes tore it's gaze away from me and it looked out the door's window.

I could hear the footsteps of on-coming doctors and hopefully Xavier."You better leave and never come back, got it? Good." His feet touched the floor briefly before shooting up and out the open window on the otherside of the room.

I padded over and stared down, out in the cool breeze. I am so far off the ground. I feel invincible. I struggled to climb onto the panel encasing the window. As soon as i got it, the doctors flooded the room, stapping me to the bed and jabbing needles into my body.

"NO! Stop! Leave her be!" Xavier brushed past the invading people and his hand cradled mine. "Do you mind giving us some privacy?" He glared at the doctors as they started shifting from one foot to the other, uncomfortably. "GO!"

They all jumped at his voice, even me, but they soon were all out of the small room."What happened? Are you okay?"

"Yes, I'm fine, but-"

"I was down on the bottom level and i heard screaming. I knew it was you because you are the loudest screamer i know. I came running as fast as i could. What happened?" I gazed into his eyes until he kissed my forehead and said, "It's okay. You can tell me about it later, okay?"

He got up to leave, but my arm stopped him. "Xavier, if i tell you, you have to promise not to tell anyone."

"I promise." He kissed my hand and stared into my eyes.

"I saw an Angel."

"What the hell? Maybe, you should stay here a little while longer." He stared at me, stuned, as he cradled my hands in his and stoked my hair.

"No. Liste-"

"Stop. That's enough, now. I love you, but this is crazy. You are just tired."

"Yeah. I agree, but it just seemed so real . . ." I glanced at my hair as the fluid that were being injected into me began to take effect. I closed my eyes with a sigh. "If only you believed me." I fell alseep without another thought.

"Hey. Wake up, Sweetheart." The doctor's voice sounded desperate. I opened my eyes long enough to see him staring at me with a look of resentment. I could tell he didn't want to be here, waking me up, or anywhere near me for that matter.

"What?"

"You get to go home today. Get up and get ready. Let's go, now." He pulled the covers back and lifted my back up slightly, i sit up the rest of the way.

"Leave me alone. I got it." I stood up on the floor and hobbled to the bathroom.

"Wait! Miss!" The doctor rushed after me and pulled me back to bed. "Sit here and stay. I will go get your boyfriend." I smiled at the name he used for Xavier, "boyfriend".
