Chapter Six: Together Against the World
Xavier pulled me along, basically dragging me on the floor. "Come on, Nova! Am i going to have to carry you?" I looked at him and nodded my head.
"Please?"
He chuckled and wrapped his arms around my waist, lifting me off the ground. "You are so light, Gurl! You need a hamburger! Are you hungry? I'm going to get you a hamburger."
I giggled and he carried me into the parking lot. "So where are we going?" He put me down and leaned against a streetlight pole.
"I don't know. Where do you want to go?" He waggled his thick eyebrows at me.
I giggled.
"Um.. Hello?"
A strange boy stepped into the surrounding light. He had brown hair and brown eyes. He looked about our age, but fairly short.
"Hi," I said, casually. "I don't think i have seen you around here before."
"No. I just moved here. My name is Daniel." He stuck out his hand and i reached to shake it, but Xavier pulled me back.
I gave him a strange look and he let go. I clasped Daniel's hand and said, "My name is Nova. And this is Xavier." I motioned to him and Daniel, once again, stuck out his hand.
Xavier looked at it before turning around. Daniel dropped his hand with a hurt look. "Sorry," I said. "Xavier is a little shy." I shoved him and he stumbled forwards.
"What was that for," Xavier asked, turning around.
"For being mean!" I glanced back at Daniel and he turned around, crossing his arms. He was teasing me! I smiled and turned back to Xavier. "Chill. Okay?"
"Um.. Okay."
"What's wrong with you?"
He leaned over and whispered in my ear, "Creeper.."
Xavier has this knack for knowing when you shouldn't be around someone. Like, when they aren't very good. He has always had this talent. And i loved it!
I gave him a look and turned back to Daniel. "So how old are you?"
"I turn nineteen July 7th."
"Oh! That's so cool! I turned seventeen March 3rd and this old grandpa turned eighteen the same day." I crossed my eyes at him and he chuckled. "You are older than-"
"Nova, shut up." He turned to Daniel and said, "Look, we got to go to a party and if we don't leave now, we will be late. Sorry."
"Oh," Daniel said with disappointment. Then his eyes lite up and he asked, "Can i come?"
"What? No!" Xavier sounded frustrated.
Daniel got on his knees and put his hands together. "Please?"
I looked at them both and then lingered my gaze on Xavier, "Please? He is about our age and everything!"
"I said no, Nova"
"Pleeeeaaaase," I whined.
"NO!" He turned around again and crossed his arms.
I glanced at Daniel still on the ground. I motioned at him to get in the car. He nodded and slipped around the vehicle.
