Chapter 3: Together Against the World
I awoke in Xavier’s arms in a pool of blood. He was yelling my name over and over. “Nova! Wake your ass up right this minute!”
“Take a chill-pill,” I managed to say before blacking out again.

The next time I came to, I was in a hospital bed. I looked around, seeing a TV, a little nightstand with nothing on it, a lot of cords and machines hooked up to my arms, and two chairs, in which only one of them was occupied. Xavier was asleep and stayed that way for several minutes.
He began to stir and he spoke my name with the sound of longing. His eyes fluttered and my heartbeat raced. His eyelids shot open and his hand went straight for mine. In a matter of seconds, he was snuggled in the hospital bed with me.
“Ow.”
“I’m sorry! Oh, my gosh, Nova!” The wound on my arm stretched and pulled. It felt as if my arm was being cut off. It bled enough that it began to seep through the bandages. “Holy shit!” Xavier leaped off the bed and disappeared into the hallway. The last thing I heard before darkness was Xavier’s voice yelling for the doctor.
For the next few minutes, I faded in and out. “She lost a lot of blood.”
“But she is going to be okay, right? I mean, losing blood doesn’t matter, right? Please say right!” Xavier sounded desperate.
“I’m sorry.”
The rest was all a blur.
I leaned over Xavier screaming his name. “XAVIER!! PLEASE!!!” His stomach poured out blood until there wasn’t any more.
Xavier had just showed me that he was an Angel. He jumped off the top of a twenty story building, planning to prove to me that he really was an Angel, but right before he opened his wings, Naveah jumped out of a building and cut a hole in Xavier’s stomach.
Naveah slammed into the window in the building across from the one I was standing on. She fell through and landed safely on the floor. Xavier on the other-hand wasn’t so good. He hit the ground and hadn’t moved. My screaming began as soon as Naveah had burst through that first window. “NO!!! XAVIER!!!” I ran to the stairs and fell almost immediately.
I tumbled down the stairs. Down and down and down and down. Never in my life had I ever been so scared. The ground rushed up to meet my face over and over again. Twenty floors worth of stairs I fell down. When I reached the bottom, it felt as if I had broken every bone in my body. It didn’t matter. Xavier is what mattered. I sprang to my feet and sprinted to where Xavier laid. “Please…” I put my forehead to his and held my breath. Nothing. I heard nothing. He didn’t breathe at all.
“PLEASE!! I need you. I need you with me. HELP ME! SOMEONE HELP ME! Please...”
I pulled Xavier close to me and began to cry. I couldn’t live without him. I just couldn’t. At that moment, there was a crash above us. I looked up to greet the broken glass that showered over Xavier and me.
Naveah landed on the ground before us. I stood up with a shattered remain in my hand. “Back yourself up, Darling, or you will be wishing you had never been born.” My voice was as solid as a stone wall. The girl flinched at the sound of my tear-bitten voice.
“What’s wrong, Love? Did I kill your one true love? Is that why you are so sad? Is that why your face is tear-stricken? Or why you are clutching a piece of glass? Do you want to kill me? Go ahead. Take your best shot. I dare you.” I gritted my teeth at her words.
I gripped the glass harder and leaped for her heart. “You Bitch!” I cursed her. My heart sunk as she easily dodged my blow.
“Stop!” I spun around. Xavier was floating casually above his own human body. “Now that’s enough, Dear Child.” Naveah swiped her sword at Xavier. Her pointed blade shimmied right through his form.
“That’s enough!” His voice boomed through the entire city, shattering all glass.
I sprung up in that stupid hospital bed, screaming, “NOO!!!”
Xavier was already at my side, stroking my hand. “Nova, are you okay? What happened? What is it?”
The doctor rushed in and began to insert a liquid into one of the many needles that imbedded my arm.
