Chapter 3
After my little encounter with Kyle, the rest of my trip went pretty smoothly. I stopped to stay the night at a pretty shady looking hotel, but I didn't have any problems. I guess I have a reputation now for being the girl that will kick your butt if you mess with her. When I finally got to my shabby chic (but mostly just shabby)apartment in LA, the realization hit me. I'm alone. I don't live with my parents anymore. I have 6,000 dollars and nobody telling me what to do with it. I can do what ever I want. I have to admit that I did a little dance when I realized this. Then I realized that I needed to start unpacking. The apartment I was living in had a refrigerator, microwave, oven, dishwasher and a couple pieces of furniture, but other than that it was completely bare. I need to go furniture shopping. My audition for the Hunger Games isn't for another 2 weeks, so I've got plenty of time to just explore the city. I don't feel like unpacking right now, so all I do is bring all the boxes inside, grab my purse and head out the door. When I pull out of the parking lot, I realize I have no idea where anything is, so I pull out my IPhone and ask Siri where the nearest place for furniture is. She then gives me directions and I pull up to a quaint looking little shop.
I grab my purse, lock the car and head inside. When I pull open the door, I realize that this shop is exactly what I'm looking for. It's exactly my style, and the prices-from what I can tell- seem to be exactly right. A girl who looked around my age was working the register. She had on a purple blouse and a pair of light wash skinny jeans. Her jet black hair was pulled into a ponytail, and her icy blue eyes were rimmed with a tasteful amount of black eyeliner.
"Hi, I'm Sophie. Can I help you find anything specific?" She had a clear, high voice, but it wasn't so high that it was annoying.
"Hi, I'm Danielle. I just moved here from Iowa and I need furniture for my new apartment." I said. I think this girl might be my new best friend. She seemed really nice, and she had a genuine smile on her face.
"Are you looking for anything particular today?" She asked.
"Everything. I need literally everything." I said with a chuckle. She laughed too.
"Well, let's get started then!" She said, excitedly. She stepped out from behind the counter and motioned for me to follow.
A few hours later, I had a bed frame, mattress, nightstand, a couple lamps, a rug, a coffee table and a few furniture covers in an adorable black and white chevron print for the furniture that came with my apartment. It all came to a grand total of about 400 dollars. Me and Sophie both realized that we an insane amount of things in common. If it wasn't for the fact that she had dark hair and pale skin and I had light hair and tanner skin, you'd think we were sisters. I thanked her a couple different times and we exchanged phone numbers. She is officially my first friend in California. Now off to Target.
I found my way to Target with the help of Siri again. I needed groceries and dish ware. I started by picking out a set of plates, silverware and glasses that I liked. My mom had already given me a couple tupperware containers and casserole dishes that she didn't want anymore, so I moved on to appliances. I picked out a blender, and some other kitchen essentials like towels. Time to get groceries.
After buying all of my groceries and kitchen stuff, I decided I want to go home and get settled. That's one of the best parts of being on your own. You get to make all the decisions. It took me much longer than it should've to get home, because by now it was 5 o clock and the traffic was brutal. I finally made it home, and started unpacking all of my stuff. I was surprised that I managed to fit all of my stuff, and all of my groceries into my tiny little car.Assembling all the furniture was the worst. That alone took about three hours. By that time I was starving, so I made a quick dinner, had a can of sugar-free Redbull, and got back to work. It was almost midnight when I finished unpacking everything, and I was beat. I climbed into my new bed, and quickly fell asleep.
