The next day, Lily and I went to the mall to search for clothes.
I was looking through a rack of shirts when Lily asked me, "So, what came up yesterday that made you have to reschedule?"
"Oh, my mom dragged me to go to meet our new neighbors."
"Really? Anything interesting about them?"
"Well, not really. They're a family from Australia and have three sons."
"Ooh really? Are any of them hot?" She wiggled her eyebrows. She could be so blunt sometimes, or maybe all the time.
"Well--yeah. They all practically look the same. You know, the typical blonde hair and blue eyes. Luke's pretty cute. He's pretty hardcore looking, though, for our age at least."
"Seems like a bad ass to me."
"I guess. I don't really know anything about him, so I'm not going to judge him just yet."
"Is he going to go to our school?"
"I don't know. But I'm pretty sure he will."
"Well, I guess we'll find out more about him tomorrow." She said.
"Yeah, sure." I mumbled quietly.
*The next morning*
"Emily, wake up sweetheart. It's the first day of school, you gotta get dressed."
"Hmm. Five more minutes." I grumbled.
"Nuh uh. If you don't get up I'm leaving you to take the bus." She warned.
"Ugh, fine."
I stood up groggily and made my way to the bathroom. I saw my reflection and I looked like a mess (as I always do in the morning.)
I quickly brushed my hair and teeth, put my hair into a braid, got dressed, and walked downstairs.
My mom was at the table eating a bowl of cereal.
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed myself a bowl of cereal, too.
"So, are you excited for your first day of school?" My mom asked happily.
"Excited isn't really the word that I'd use to describe how I feel." I grumbled.
"Oh don't worry sweetie, I'm sure it'll be fun. C'mon it's your senior year, this year is supposed to be the best one yet."
"Yeah maybe, except for the fact that I'm going to have to be applying to colleges in two months and setting the path for my future, which I still have no idea what I have in mind."
"You'll figure it out in time, but anyways let's go, I'm sure you don't wanna be late."
I set my bowl in the sink and made my way out the door. We drove to school and once I got out I waved my mom goodbye. I met up with Lily by the gates and we walked to our lockers together.
"So, have you seen Luke anywhere yet?" She asked.
"No, not yet. I bet he's probably lost somewhere."
A few minutes later, everyone in the hall seemed to have stopped talking.
I turned around to see what was going on and was met by a pair of bright blues eyes.
I could understand now why people seemed so quiet. In our small town, unfamiliar faces were rare and almost everyone new each other. People here were also very conservative and traditional. Eighty percent of the high-schoolers here looked just about the same. So to see a new figure, especially one that stood out as much as Luke, was quite shocking.
"Oh, we meet again, I see." Luke chuckled.
"Hi, it's nice to see you again." I smiled nervously.
"I guess we're gonna be seeing each other even more knowing that I have my locker next to yours."
"Yeah, I guess so. So, what classes do you have? Maybe we might have some together."
He gave me his schedule and my eyes scanned over it.
"Well, it seems we have English with Lily, and Math and Music for just us both."
"Awesome. Who's Lily?" He inquired.
"Me!" She popped out from behind me. "Nice to meet you! I'm Lillian, but just call Lily."
They both shook hands.
"Yeah, she's my best friend."
"Yup, that's me!" She smiled widely.
As I stared at him, I couldn't help but realize how beautiful eyes his eyes were, they were a deep blue and I found my attention locked in on them.
The ringing of the bell knocked me back into reality.
"Um, we've got to get to class, but I'll see you around, then?" I say.
"Yeah, see you later."
I turn around to see Lily with her mouth gaped open slightly and eyes wide.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Nothing, nothing. It's just when you said he was cute I thought you just meant cute. But girl, he is fucking gorgeous!"
"Yeah, and you've got a boyfriend. I mean, sure he's really cute and all but I don't know anything about him. He could end up being a big prick, you never know." I look down at my feet.
"Just be careful around him though, okay?"
"Why?"
"Because he just seems really dark. I don't want to compare but sort of like he could be like he-who-must-not-be-named." Lily sighed. "Look, I just don't want you getting hurt again."
"I know but we don't know him yet."
"I know, I'm just saying. If you start taking a liking toward him, just promise me you'll be careful."
"I won't. But fine, I promise."
"But hey, who knows, maybe you might even come to like him." She winks at me.
"Whatever you say." I rolled my eyes.
