Time for the defense to ask me questions. As well as some from the crowd. fun.
"Defense, any questions," the judge drawled. Ash smirked, looking at me, "Are you single?" Son of a bitch. I knew this would happen. I turned to look at the judge, "do I have to answer." "Swore to tell the truth," twittered Ash. "Yeah, but the question has nothing to do with the case," I replied. "Actually," started his lawyer. I groaned internally. "There is a rumor going around that your being abused, so it could be useful information," he continued. "There is no way for me to talk around the question is there," I asked. "No," said the judge. I sighed, "Yeah, I'm single." Ash smiled, "You wanna go out sometime?" I stared him down, "No." He smiled sheepishly in a 'well I tried' way. A few girls giggled at his antics. For fuck's sake. A hand went up in the crowd, it was the fuckboy from English.  I sighed. The judge pointed to him. "What's your number," he asked.  I gave the judge a 'really' stare. The judge sighed, " Overruled." I would have given a fake number anyway. "Are there any real questions," the judge asked. The defense lawyer's hand rose, rings gleaming. The judge nodded at him. "We haven't seen the footage of what she was doing before the incident," he smirked, "she could have been angered before this." I have you cornered. "Actually Grim can show you what happened over the camera spread. Everything," I told him. He seemed surprised. I turned to the judge, "may Grim come forward and show the footage?" The judge nodded. "Grim," I called to my friend in the crowd, "do your thing." Grim walked up to the computer running the projector. He brought up the video of me leaving the security office.
"This is the start of Ghost's shift," Grim explained.
"Ghost," asked the rival lawyer. Grim pointed at me. The cameras switched to follow me walking to the food court. Grim switched to footage to fast forward, the recorded me walked around at super speed. The footage returned to normal.
"Here is where I called Ghost to tell them of the incident," Grim zoomed the camera in on me slightly. I saw myself respond to his words, before I took off. The cameras switched rapidly, following my form to the pretzel cart. "The camera closest to the incident caught audio as well," Grim settled on the footage from the closest camera. I watched the incident from a birds eye view, it was as I remembered. Outraged whispers broke out of the quiet crowd, angered at Ash for lying. The judge turned to Ash and his lawyer. "What is the meaning of your deception," he growled. Ash and his lawyer looked nervous, stuttering and trying to explain themselves. Caught ya! "The jury will now discuss," the judge announced. The jury filed out of the room. "And now we wait," whispered Matthew. "We got this," I sighed.
-------------30 minutes later--------------
Nothing
-------------45 minutes--------------------
What is taking so long?
-------------1 hour--------------------------
I wanna go home
-one hour and thirty minutes------------
The jury walked back into the room. FINALLY! One of them, an old man, cleared his throat, "the jury has made a decision." The judge gestured at him to continue. "We find the defendant Ash to be -," he was interrupted by a shout from the crowd. "Innocent," the man from subway called. "No," the old man glared at him, "guilty." A cheer erupted from the crowd. I let a small smile slip onto my face. It was over.
------------15 minutes later---------------
Or so I thought. I was stuck waiting for the 'medic' to arrive and inspect my wounds. "Can I go home," I asked officer Jones. "Not until we know you're alright," he sighed. "I don't have a concussion, or internal bleeding," I argued, " I'm fine!" He looked away from me. We sat in this awkward silence for what seemed like hours before a knock sounded at the door. It opened to show a young woman in a police uniform. She scanned over my wound and checked my pupils. A few questions and I was declared well. "Told ya so," I grumbled as I headed for the door. I got outside, the sun was setting. That means I'll be walking home in the dark. Fine. I stalked angrily over to the empty bus stop. The bus pulled up a few long minutes later and I began my journey home.
(Why did this take so long?)
