she was alone in an empty apartment that had once been filled with positive energy, thoughts. a place where beautiful memories were created.

that was a year ago.

the place was dull and felt empty (even with all the furniture and mounds of books towering over every free space that was available). scribbles of a pen that scratched against a notepad sounded throughout the quiet place.

sniffles followed soon after.

a blonde sat against the wall, her knees close to her chest while she scribbled meaningless words onto the piece of parchment. tear drops smudged her writings, but she proceeded on.

' dear natsu,
hey, its lucy. how are things going for you and happy? i hope you guys are having fun wherever you are right now. things have been.. alright for me this past year. the bookstore had to come to a close because i haven't been receiving many customers. fairytail is still disbanded, and i haven't seen or heard from anyone in the guild for months now.. i miss them all. where are you natsu? i miss you so much, please come back..
well, i've got to go. i need to begin packing up books. they're kicking me out if i don't hurry it up.

until next time,
~lucy heart. '

the blonde swiped her tears away, folded the note and placed it into a small chest under her bed. she brushed her skirt off and opened the faded pink curtains, a ray of light beamed throughout the dark room.

she smiled sadly, remembering when the days were good. when natsu would always, always enter her home through the window. she'd scold him every time he got dirt on her sheets, and make him brush them off.

she turned back and looked into the empty space around her. she envisioned memories, and the exact moment displayed before her. a faded memory of a christmas celebration begun to form in the living room.

tables and chairs, rugs and people filled the room. laugher and cheers was what she missed the most.

lucy smiled.

lucy saw herself sitting in the corner by herself with her legs held close to her chest. "is something wrong?" she looked up and sadly smiled to the pink-haired male that made himself comfortable beside her. she flattened her legs and he laid his head down on her lap.

"yeah. i know its christmas and all, and we're supposed to be having a good time, but.." she looked away. "do you ever feel lonely in a crowded room, natsu?"

he raised an eyebrow. "eh? what do you mean?" lucy looked up and softly smiled.
"everyone's having a good time, right,
natsu?" he grinned. "ah."

natsu's eyes drifted shut and he took a deep breath in, and slowly exhaled. he could smell lucy all around him; and he loved it.

lucy watched as natsu's chest rose and fell, as he peacefully rested in her lap. "i feel alone when i'm not with you, natsu." she whispered softly. "i don't know what would happen if you were to leave for good.."

he opened his eyes and sat up to face her.
"well, that's one thing you ain't gotta worry about. i'm not going anywhere, lucy. not now; not ever." she blushed and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"i know you won't."

"you won't.."

"you did."

lucy whispered to herself as the memory rippled away. ever since that day, lucy vowed to never make promises you cannot keep.

"it's okay. natsu said i wouldn't be alone forever, though."
