Chapter 17:

My head was so filled with butterflies and bubbles that when I got home, I almost forgot to take off my shoes before I flopped face first onto my couch. My cheek was still pulsing warmly from Yuuto's kiss and my lips were still sticky from the pastry I had gobbled up on the train.

I yawned and twisted and stretched before curling up into a ball and drifting off to sleep. If I dreamt that Yuuto was cuddled up right behind me, again, nobody had to know.

I was jerked out of my slumber as my front door swung open with such force that it banged against the wall and slammed shut. My body was heavy with sleep and my eyes were glued together from it as well when I heard a thud hit my floor. Hands shook roughly and I sat up with a yawn. I rubbed the grit out of my eyes and twisted my lips as my sight came into focus.

“Hikaru?” I muttered, my mouth stale from sleep, “What are you doing here?”

My eyes had finally cleared enough to get a good look at Hikaru. She had decided to forego makeup today, but it didn't really matter, she still looked amazing. She was dressed casually in a pair of tights and loose shirt.

Stifling a yawn, I asked “Why are you dressed like that?”

Hikaru shrugged.

“I was running errands all day and I'm exhausted. First I had to get a manicure and a pedicure and then I had to get waxed and then I had to get facial! In one day! All for my father's silly company birthday party. I wanted to relax. So...”

Hikaru bent over to the ground and dragged over a plastic wrapped case of sixty individual wine coolers.

“...I thought we could have a little fun. You know, drink and talk, like we used to.”

“It's Monday night.”

Hikaru rolled her eyes and cut through the plastic with her nails. “What's your point?”

I shrugged and held out my hand for a beer, still a bit weighed down from the long nap I had. I twisted the cap off of the fruity wine cooler and took a long drink. Sleeping after eating something excessively sweet or savory was always a bad move and no matter how many times I told myself I wouldn't, I always wound of knocked right out.

Before I knew it, most of the wine cooler was gone. I let out a belch and wiped my lips. The wine cooler tasty sweet and fruity, which meant I had to drink like ten of this to get really drunk. For Hikaru, it would take like three. There was only one thing I did better than Hikaru, and that was drinking. It was probably because I had more surface area or something. I really didn't care when I was drinking.

I was three bottles in when Hikaru found it in herself to speak to me again. I was pleasantly buzzed and my brain and mouth disconnected from a combination of sleep and alcohol. Hikaru tugged at my skirt weakly, a good deal drunker then I was, before asking me a question.

“Why are you dressed up like that anyways? It's Monday and you have a vacation right?”

My mouth had opened up and started letting out sounds and sentences before my brain could get a hold of it to tell it shut the hell up.

“I had a date with Yuuto today, he took me to a cafe near his job.”

Even though my reflexes were muddled by my drinks, I still flinched when Hikaru threw her bottle to the floor. I looked down in shock at the sticky red liquid and shards of glass that surrounded her bare feet. I put my own bottle on the table and looked at her, surprised and confused.

“Hikaru! What the hell is your problem?”

I built up the air to yell at her again when she didn't answer me, but stopped as I noticed her shoulders trembling wildly. Trembling as if she were holding in sobs. I moved close to her on the couch and put a hand around her.
