Christopher and I bonded a lot over the next few weeks. We went for walks, goofed around in the pool, we had even prank called quite a few people, but most of the time we just sat down in my room and talked.
He never really mentioned any of the werewolf stuff until I gathered up the courage to ask about it. I didn't want to go all werewolf crazy on him. He might not like being a werewolf, and I didn't want to offend him. Wait... Offend him of what? I didn't know, the thought of me asking him question about werewolves made me paranoid.
It was late at night, and it was pitch black outside. I was laying in the bed and Chris, as I'd learned to call him, was twirling around in my chair.
"Christopher?" I whispered.
"Hm?" He responded, closing his eyes, spinning faster.
"Is there more to the werewolves?" I asked timidly.
He stopped spinning. "Of course... Why? Do you want me to explain?" He opened his eyes and looked deep into mine. I smiled and blushed hard. I had no idea why, but that look made me feel so... exposed. Like he could see right into my soul. It was a weird feeling. I looked down, trying to hide my embarrassment, and nodded.
"Where should I start?" He asked himself, crawling into the bed with me and making himself comfortable.
"The beginning." I suggested.
"Well, why don't you ask me what you want to know?" Christopher raised an eyebrow, looking at my still bright red face.
"Okay. Don't werewolves and vampires hate each other?" I looked up at him again and dropped my eyes.
"Yeah." He said simply.
"So why are you living with two of them?"
"Ah, that's a good question. Well, there was a big war about fifteen or sixteen years ago, between the werewolves and vampires. See, the vampire clans had claimed some land that was too close to our territory for our pack. We fought for it, but no one really won. Era, Kyle, and another woman are the last left of their clan, while Cedric, another man and I are the last of our pack. It was a draw. To answer your question, we live together in peace because we don't ever want anything like that war to ever happen again. It's a good habit to get into. And we planned to make a treaty once Cedric and I turn eighteen. Next question?"
I simply nodded my head, and thought for a second, my eyes drooping every now and then. I was exhausted. I'd had a particularly long day today. Even so, just that explanation to one question painted my mind with plenty more. How big was the pack or clan? Are there any other's in the world? How much land was being fought for? Were Chris's parents in the war? Were Era and Kyle fighting, too? How old are Era and Kyle? I decided to suppress these questions and lock them away for another time. I got my next question together.
"In what ways are you actually a werewolf?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I've never seen you go all dog on anybody before. Can't you shift or something?"
"I can't, but Cedric can. I'm only a half, didn't I ever tell you that?"
"No!" I exclaimed.
"It's no different than being a regular werewolf. I just can't change whenever I want-"
"So you can shift?"
"Kinda. It's one of those really creepy wolves from the horror stories, you know? Not like the animal. I can only do it on the full moon. Cedric can change whenever."
