***Chapter 20- Better left unsaid***

I glanced at the wall clock, hooked on the wall behind serving counter in the cafeteria. The boy behind the counter, who was coming in the array of my gaze, smiled at me. He looked cuter with that smile. I liked the shade of his blue eyes and he was simple and innocent too. I returned the smile and saw amusedly as a red tinge crept up his cheeks. I always got this reaction from boys except one person. As soon as I remembered him, I felt my heart drop. I immediately shook the image of that person off my mind. I didn't want to think about him or us, not yet.

I knew it would work, we would work. That's what I assured myself all the time.

Five minutes were left for us to make it to the class, but none of my friends seemed bothered. And why would they? We were having a hot topic to discuss and however hard we tried to put a stop, it seemed impossible. I missed Ron here. I was worried about him. Few minutes had passed since he left the cafeteria to go for the swimming practice. I hoped he wouldn't let his anger affect his performance.

"There can be some other reasons for their disappearance. May be wild animals attacks them?" Mac suggested. I brought my mind back to the topic that we were discussing.

"Fucking brilliant, dude!" Eloise clapped him on back and cheered.

Mac showed a toothy grin with a reply, "Thanks, bro".

"You both act like your brain lies in your toes," Stechi said, shaking her head, bemused. "Didn't you learn in geography that this forest is a bad habitat for animals due to the acidic water of the pond in there? There are NO animals in Verboten Forest."

"And there you say science has nothing to do with it? May be people who went there started feeling hot, and so jumped into that acidic pond?" Eloise cocked his eyebrow and waited for our replies.

"Only dumbass can come up with it. Why would every passer jump into it? And if there were any animals living in that forest who attacked those people, police would have found out their bodies in pieces," Mitzy corroborated Stechi's theory. Eloise, who just wanted to piss off Stechi, stuck out his tongue at them and leaned back in his chair, dramatically huffing.

"But Mitz, if these attacks are been carried out during the night, why didn't police hem in that forest during night? They could have saved some lives or at the least would have found some hint?" I asked Mitzy who now looked disturbed with the questionnaire.

"They did, Ash," she replied gravely. "They did, but with no avail. They cannot risk another officer's life when they don't have a clue that is doing it and how. They can't fight someone who is not a human and is power-" she stopped when I eyed her skeptically. She shrugged and continued, "They can't do anything if people are ignoring the boards of 'No Entry' in prohibited areas such as this- Verboten Forest."

Everyone went quite as Mitzy said this. Everyone seemed to be thinking about it, digesting it.

"Okay guys, let's get this front." I spoke- giving everyone a hard look- thinking how to place my words properly. "It is clear that till now, no vestige of evidence is found to support this notion." I paused to look around. They all nodded in understanding, so I continued, "People either went there to disprove the urban legends or some might have entered there by mistake. But no one returned alive from there. Am I correct?" They again nodded in yes. "So if we consider that there are some evil creatures in that forest, why didn't they attack people outside the forest?"
