Swiping his identification card and matching his fingerprint on the small red screen, Seokjin entered the police office. As always, he was the first one here and so naturally switched all the lights on and unlocked all doors with his master code.
Heading over to the staff kitchen, he made himself black coffee and held the mug for warmth in the frosty Seoul morning before heading down to the basement where the investigation laboratory, holding a fresh body was.
Fishermen had pulled out the body from Gimpo docks late last night and when it was brought down for a post mortem; Lisa, the forensic expert had explained that the body was probably underwater for a good week. Luckily, the water had kept the body from decomposing and the poor guy was initially identified as an ex security worker of The Jeon's, but no government records were found of him, so his true identity was still a mystery.
Putting his coffee mug on a nearby table, Seokjin slowly pulled down the white cloth covering the body in the cold room.
All bones in both legs were shattered, his skull was cracked open, he was made to swallow acid and some flesh had been badly incarcerated before he was presumably thrown overboard. There'd been a pattern of torture methods and marks found on each victim's body this past year.
The guy was at peace now, he couldn't be hurt anymore.
"I reckon they've got themselves a full blown traitor."
The voice startled Seokjin as he turned around and lay eyes on his partner, Jung Hoseok.
The happiest officer and Seokjin's best friend, until four years ago when his sister was diagnosed with brain cancer. He needed money for her treatment and Seokjin gave all the funds he'd saved for Mina, he'd given Hoseok everything he had with hopes to save his sister, but the cancer was only getting worse and Hoseok needed more money.
No one knows how trainee officer Park Jimin went missing, but Seokjin has his solid suspicions.
He knows how desperate Hoseok was and he knows it isn't near a good enough excuse to sell a pretty teenager to the ruthless Jeon prince, but everyone has their inner demons and everyone battles with them to get what they want - no what they need.
Priorities, right?
"I think you're right. This has lasted a year and still no confessions, it's just getting the big boss more pissed by the day, something huge is about to happen real soon. I just don't know what," Seokjin replied as Hoseok rubbed his shoulder in circles.
"Ya Jin hyung, you should relax," he consoled in a dull voice.
Seokjin smiled distantly, plump lips pressed in a thin line, "How can I? He's in Mina's class you know."
"Woah, jinjja?!" He exclaimed in shock.
The elder nodded and chuckled, "Yeah and from what I've heard, she's already said quite a bit to him."
"Haha, she takes after you. So feisty, the both of you," Hoseok grinned as Seokjin covered the body before picking up his mug.
"I just hope she knows he's a pure thug."
Hoseok solemnly nodded and fidgeted with his fingers guiltily. Seokjin knew why as he flicked his partner gently across the forehead, "Ya what's wrong?"
Hoseok looked up with sad eyes, "You know what. You saved my arse three years ago...you shouldn't have done that."
They were now walking back to Seokjin's office, and more staff were trailing in with folders in their arms and smiled at Seokjin as they passed him. Once they were in the cosy office, Hoseok closed the door behind him and took his usual seat near the board where all sorts of photos were pinned up.
