I woke to the sound of screams and cries of terror and I shot up off of the bed looking for attackers. No one was there and I looked down at the bed and saw Thranduil thrashing about and screaming. I climbed on top of him and restrained his arms the best that I could. before putting my hands on his cheeks and put my forehead on his.
"Thranduil, wake up, wake up." I pleaded and his eyes shot open, bloodshot and there were tears running down his cheeks.
"Everything is alright Thranduil, no one will hurt you," I whispered softly and kissed his lips lightly.
"Nightmares, dragons, and my father..." He whispered and sat up against the headboard. I wrapped my arms around his neck and he rested his head in between my neck and shoulder. I kissed the top of his head and brushed his hair from his face.
"Thranduil its over, no one is going to hurt you and I'm right here," I said softly, kissing his lips softly. I leaned against the headboard and he laid his head on my lap. I ran my fingers through his hair and I kissed his forehead as he fell back into sleep. He would be really mad at me tomorrow so I was going to give him as much time with me as I could spare. Soon I fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
I woke to the feeling of fingers stroking the side of my face and Thranduil's lips on mine.
"Melamin, it is time to wake up." He said softly and I kissed him again before letting my eyes open.
"Good morning, Thranduil," I said before stretching and getting up. I quickly bathed and changed into a new shirt, pants, and boots, leaving my bow and quiver in the bedroom
before making my way to the throne room where Thranduil was sitting, waiting for me. He smiled at me and motioned for me to sit next to him on the throne since it was big enough to sit at least three elves.
"You're as beautiful as the day you left." He whispered and I kissed his cheek.
"As are you, Melamin," I said and he nuzzled my cheek before pressing his lips on mine lightly.
"Your Majesty the dwarves have escaped." I turned my eyes to see two guards with Legolas and Tauriel.
"How?" Thranduil growled and I touched his shoulder. His body relaxed under my touch and I stood up.
"How did the dwarves escape?" I asked softly, but a sternness in my voice. They had left without me, and they would hear it from me later.
"We actually suspected you, lady Kara, but it was confirmed that a halfling escaped our capture and had been roaming around our halls," Legolas said and I let out a small chuckle.
"Hobbits, always the quietest creatures. Thranduil, shall I go after them and retrieve the starlight gems?" I asked and he looked at me carefully.
"Could you give us a moment," I asked the guards and they bowed before leaving. I turned back to Thranduil and he stood up in front of me.
"You know I wouldn't run away, Thranduil," I said softly and he frowned nodding.
"I know, Melamin. But I don't know that you won't be in danger. Though I expect you will go, no matter what I do." He said.
"60 years and you still know how mischievous I am," I said and kissed his lips softly.
"Kara, you can't leave," Thranduil said and I frowned before backing out of his arms. Darius was waiting for me, the dwarves had made it to Laketown by now and I needed to leave.
"Thranduil, don't make me run," I said in a whispered tone. He reached for me and I backed away again.
"Melamin." He spoke sternly but I whipped around and darted towards his chambers. I grabbed my still packed bag and quiver before wrapping my cloak around me and darting out 888the door. I ran through the palace and avoided guards as best I could before making out to the river. I felt my heart pounding in time with my feet as they beat across the ground, covering as much distance as I could. My eye stung with tears at the look on Thranduil's face when I ran and I broke my heart.
"Nana!" I heard Legolas call and I looked back as I ran. His face was full of hurt and loss and I wanted to give him a hug but I turned back and kept running until I lost all the elves.
'Kara, I'm just up ahead are we swimming to the town?' Darius asked through our bond and I sighed.
'We'll swim but we have to stay low.' I said and I saw him waiting in the water for me. I stopped at the water's edge and shifted into my dragon form.
I walked into the water and we began swimming towards Lake-town. There was a strangled cry from behind us and someone called my name. I felt my tears threaten to fall but I kept them in and dove under the water.
