Darius swam next to me in silence, our heads the only thing not under water. My tears dripped off of my snout into the water and made small ripples. Darius nudged me and I nodded, dipping my face into the water to wipe away the tears.

'We're almost there, Kara.' He said through our bond, his voice full of compassion and understanding. I nodded once more and we dove under the water before approaching the town. We swam up to one of the deserted parts of the docks and shifted back before pulling ourselves up out of the water. Darius and I dried ourselves off with our fire and I pulled my cloak hood up before sniffing the air. I followed the scent of dwarves to a small house raised up off the ground on top of a workshop. We walked up the stairs and I stopped and looked down. Two men sat in a small canoe and acted like the weren't just staring at us. I reached into my bag and pulled out two silver coins, tossing them into the boat and flashing my dragon like eyes.

"Leave," I growled and they nodded, quickly moving the boat away. Darius chuckled a bit and I knocked on the door. I heard some scuffling and I smiled lightly. A man a few inches taller than  I opened the door and looked at me.

"Can I help you?" He asked and I smiled pushing my hood back.

"I believe you are harboring my company," I said and he frowned before shaking his head. I smirked and looked into his home.

"Balin, it's just Kara!" I called into the house and he popped hi head out from the side of a wall. He smiled at me and motioned for the man to let me in. Bilbo was sitting on the couch with two little girls and a young boy was standing against another wall.

"I apologize for the inconvenience," I stopped not knowing the man's name.

"Bard." He said and I smiled softly nodding.

"Thank you, Bard. It is hard to find those who would offer honest help." I said and he shrugged before closing the door.

"So, a company of dwarves, a halfling, and what is special about you m'lady?" Bard asked before I leaned against a wall next to Darius.

"Well, I am the last of the Dragon Borns," I said before looking at Darius and smiling.

"Darius over here is my Dragon," I said and all of the human's mouths dropped.

"No, really?" Bard asked as he stopped laughing and I narrowed my eyes at him. Bilbo spoke up and Bard looked at him.

"I wouldn't do that, Kara has a fiery temper when you insult her or her race," Bilbo said and I smiled down at him.

"Dragons are proud creatures Master Baggins. What sort of Dragon would I be if I let myself be insulted," The others chuckled before returning to whatever they were doing before I walked in.

"Are you actually a dragon?" The youngest of two girls asked and I smiled nodding. My hands caught fire and she gasped, jumping back.

"I am little one, and who are you?" I asked and bent down to her level.

"I'm Tilda, that's Sigrid and my big brother Bain." She said and I smiled brightly at her. Tilda's bright blue eyes shone with wonder and excitement that I hadn't seen in a long time.

"Do you want me to tell you a story?" I asked and she nodded sitting down in front of me. I leaned against the couch and sat on the floor. I began to make shapes with my flames and Darius smiled sitting next to me.

"Once in a land like this, there lived a young girl named Ariah," I said and my fire moved like a girl walking.

"She was a princess and her parents were the King and Queen of this land. They had lived in peace for centuries, but one day it all changed when the Fire Drakes Attacked. The King and Queen sent their daughter away with a trusted friend." Bane and Sigrid had sat down and begun to watch with their sister as my fire danced across the open air.

"When Ariah had become strong and Brave she returned home with her loyal friend to take back her kingdom," I said and I noticed all the dwarves had gathered, including Thorin.

"A great war was fought and many people died, but in the End Ariah took back her kingdom. She ruled her lands for many centuries after the war and brought peace back to her people. Ariah fell in love with a young man who she saved from a pack of orcs and she married him, he became her king and her, his queen." I said and Tilda smiled dreamily and I touched her nose.

"Is that a true story?" Tilda asked and I nodded.

"It was the story of my mother and father. A great battle was waged in the far north where no man, elf, dwarf, or hobbit dared venture. My people once lived there, we were a peaceful race, protecting the southern lands from the wild dragons and orc packs." I said, remembering how my home had once been.

"Why don't you live there anymore?" Tilda asked and I smiled sadly.

"Even though my people are immortal by birth like the elves, we are not impervious to injury. A wild dragon attacked and I was the only one left. He is the mean dragon that lives in the mountain. Smaug was not always evil, though you know, no one is born evil." I said and Tilda frowned sadly hugging me.

"I knew Smaug, he was my best friend before I met Darius. He got sick and I couldn't heal him like I could with other people. He got really sick and he flew to the mountain thinking it would make him better and he hurt a lot of people. This is my quest, I'm going to try and heal Smaug so he won't be so mean anymore." I said and Tilda nodded.

"I believe in you, Kara." She said and I chuckled. I ruffled the top of her head and she giggled.

"You are as brave as a dragoness," I said to Tilda and she smirked at Sigrid and Bain.

"See, I'm brave!" Tilda exclaimed, jumping into her sister's arms. I laughed and crossed my arms.

"As proud as one as well I think," I said to Darius and he chuckled nodding.
