Hellos & Hurting

Smile. It light up your face doesn't it? But it doesn't light up your heart. Fake smiles distributed in every corner like bags of chips.
The only true smiles I've seen is when someone reads a good book or sees a plant growing in the middle or a sidewalk, or a child playing. You know why? Because it creates a feeling of a better time, a better life, a better situation.

A book takes you to a different  world. A plant fighting against all odds to grow shows you a fighting spirit you want to see in yourself. A child reminds you of a time when life was easier, where the most difficult thing to do was finally sleep. Ironically you'd kill for some goodnight sleep now.

But sadly life is not so happy. Sadly you have no fight left in you. Sadly you're not in a different world. You're you stuck here forever. You see new people everywhere. You see people anywhere everywhere. And each time someone passes a friendly smile your way, do you stop and think if it's real? If they are happy or are they hurting?
Maybe her heart is probably crying, his mind probably dying.

We fake a smile and get away with it.

But your eyes don't lie.

They can't.

And every single person is hurting. Every pair of eyes tell their story. Confessing how much they've been through.

Hurt hidden in every hello.

Sadness in every smile.

Every one with different pains and the same lying smile. It's the same everywhere.

It's hurting everywhere.

Not just me, not just you, not just us, everywhere.

And you can't escape it.

Because that is

Life.
