I looked at the countdown on my dry erase board. Three more days until my birthday. I was sick on the fourth day--just another side affect--so mom told me to stay home and rest. Now there's only three. I had to find a way to lift this curse. I put on my makeup, put my hair up in a pony tail, then put on some jean shorts and a long sleeve t shirt. Lastly, I put on my sandals. I walked down the steps and there were my sisters.
"You slept late today, Lola. You know, you are two hours late for your shift." Loraine told me.
"I know, I'm just really tired. And a little nauseous from yesterday." I moaned. How did my sisters look so good by I looked like a puddle of puke?
"Ok. Do you want breakfast or anything?" Layla asked. I know that they are trying to get back on my good side. It's not gonna work though. Not one bit.
"I guess I'll have coffee. Just put in 4 creams and 5 sugars." I said. Layla made the coffee and Lara was painting her nails. Loraine, well she was crushing on a guy in her math class. I mean she was stalking his Instagram. Creepy, right?
"Here ya go, sis. Enjoy!" Layla said as she placed the steaming cup of coffee in front of me. I took one sip but was interrupted by a knock on the door.
"I got it!" Layla yelled as she lunged for the doorknob. In a family with four girls, you fight over everything.
"Hi Preston! I suppose you're here for Lola."
"Hi." He said. I got off the high stool and walked over to Preston. I'm glad I had on my sandals, he still thinks I'm human.
"Hi Preston." I greeted as I closed the door behind me. He waved.
"I was meaning to ask you something," Oh no! Did he find out?
"What is it?"
"I-I was kinda wondering if you, uh....wanna go to the Summer Dance at the beach tonight? I know I should've asked you sooner and I'm-"
"Sure."
"Really? I'll pick you up around 7:40 then." I smiled.
"I'll be ready. Bye, Preston. See you tonight."
"Bye." I went back inside. My sisters were smiling ear to ear. I raised an eyebrow.
"OUR LITTLE SISTER WAS ASKED TO HER FIRST DANCE!" The three of them screamed.
"I can help you with makeup." Layla claimed her part.
"I can help you pick out an outfit." Lara said.
"I'll do hair!" Loraine yelled. I narrowed my eyes at them.
"And your expecting me to let you help me why?"
"Because you love us. And you need to look good." Lara said.
"You may wanna rethink that." I told her. She shrugged.
"Please. Even if you don't love us, we love you. And we want to help you." Layla begged.
"Fine." I said. They cheered and jumped for joy. We better start now, we only have 7 hours!"
"No, we are waiting until 3:00 pm. Got it?" They nodded. We sat in silence. The three of us looked at our phones, did homework, and read books. Anything we could do to avoid conversation.
"Is it hard being a siren?" The question slipped through my lips.
"Sometimes. I mean, it feels kinda bad to hurt people but it's worth it. You are saving the ocean from all the pollution. And there are the perks, like you're beautiful and you have power." Lara said.
"But isn't that why you did it? For looks and power?" I asked.
"No, we did it to save you." Loraine said.
"W-what do you mean?" I asked.
"We mean, that we were worried about you. Remember when you were being bullied by that mean girl?" I nodded.
"Well, we went to the Sea Witch so she could stop it. We sold our souls to her and the girl moved. It was the only way we could save you. That's why we are sirens." Layla explained.
"You did that for me?" The three of them nodded. I hugged them.
"I love you. Thank you so much!"
"No problem, little sis, no problem." Lara whispered.

I looked in the mirror. I had a knee length turquoise dress on. The skirt part kinda poofy, not huge though. Under the sparkly part was a silky turquoise fabric. It was a little sparkly too. The top of it was a shiny turquoise, silky even, and had sleeves that were like that of a tank top. My hair was up in a messy bun and had a clip that had mini shells and Starfish glued to it. I also had the same sandals on. I was very "beachy," you could say.
"Thanks guys. I look.."
"Amazing." Layla finished. I nodded. There was a knock on the door. I checked myself. No scales: check. No siren stuff: check. Looks like I'm good! I walked down the steps and opened the door.
"Woah. You look gorgeous." Preston said.
"And you look handsome." I said. He had on a long sleeve button up dress shirt and khaki shorts. He had on black converse too.
"Thanks. Are you ready?" He asked. I nodded.
"Ready." We walked together down to the beach.
Aw romance! The plot will thicken, trust me. And it becomes intense. Trust me. I'm easing my pain with the Grease soundtrack now. Newsies was making me tear up! I hope you like this chapter and thanks for reading. I'll try to publish chapter four tonight!
