"If you wanna come to the café, just stop by. I'll be there." I told Preston.
"You always are." I started to walk to the café. My mom owns it and all of my sisters and I work there. My mom needs as much help as she can get, it gets really crowded in the summer, especially since she makes the best smoothies and shakes in all of Seaside Landing. I could see her small building on the distance. The sign read "The Mermaid Café." There was already a line going out the door. And summer just started.
"Sweetie, can you seat the next person! I need you to stay late tonight; until closing time, most likely. And Lara, Loraine, Layla, do your job!" My mom was barking orders. Her brunette hair was falling out of her messy bun. My dad was a doctor, so he didn't work at the café. Lara will only work here until she goes to her third year of college. She'll be going to the community college for the first two years. I follow my mom's orders.
"Hello, welcome to the Mermaid Café! I'm your waitress, Lola. May I take your drink order?" I asked the customers as I handed them the small menu.
"Just water for the three of us." The women--most likely the mother--told me.
"You got it!" I grabbed three cups and filled the 1/3 of the way with ice. Then, I poured in some water from the Brita pitcher into the cups. I held the three cups together and walked to the table.
The family ordered their meals and payed the check. My sisters, mother, and I continued to work until the café closed at 10:30 pm. We stay open later in the summer since people are out more.
"Good job today girls! I'm gonna close up. You can get in the car or Lara can drive you home."
"We'll drive home with Lara. Also mom, if we aren't home, we are just walking around the neighborhood." Layla said.
"Ok. I have do stuff so I won't be home until late."
"Bye mom!" The four of us said. She waved and we got into Lara's car.
"Ok, we are going to the beach now. The Sea Witch texted me and she said there's a boat coming to port early tonight. Get your singing voices ready and get ready to watch Lola." Lara demanded. I took out my phone and texted Preston.

I didn't see you today

Uh..sorry, I had to do something with a person

Oh gn

Good night

I put my phone back as my Lara parked the car in the sand. We all got out and my sisters started to climb the cliff. There was this strange pool that they submerged their lower half in. My sisters had long, gleaming tails. They then pulled themselves out of the water and sat on the rocks of the cliff. The harsh ocean breeze blew their hair, but would carry their voices far, surely a couple miles. They started singing. Their voices echoing over the beach and harmonizing perfectly. I could see the cargo ship in the distance slowly swerving toward the rocks. A place where death surely follows. With each note, the boat was inching closer and closer to the jagged rocks. Then BAM! The sound of metal scraping against the rocks sounded like nails on a chalkboard. I saw the boat separating into pieces and the cargo floating in the water. The sailor was no where to be seen. My sisters ceased their voices and their legs returned. The slowly climbed down the cliffs and jumped into the car. We drove back to the house, their job was complete.

"Luckily mom or dad isn't home yet." Loraine said. My two sisters nodded.
"I'm gonna go to bed. I think you should too." I told my sisters.
"In a few minutes." Loraine responded.
"Good night though." I ignored my sisters and walked upstairs. I turned on my light and fell backwards onto the bed.
"God, if your listening to me, please, please, please let me stay human. I am not meant to be a siren." I prayed. It was quite unusual cause I never do that. But this was a reason to. I never wanted to sink ships and kill people with my voice, or accidentally destroy my friendship with Preston, or be like my sisters. I sat up and looked in the mirror. I saw the small imprint of scales on my neck. Great.
"When will this nightmare end?" I mumbled to myself. But my biggest question was that out of all the girls in the world, why me?
Sorry for the short chapter. But I kinda was distracted from listening to the Newsies and Hairspray soundtrack. I drew some pictures of Lola that I may put in the next chapter. Also I'm am so happy right now. An artist on Instagram (and writer on here) drew Thyra and Aaron! You don't know who they are but you'll see eventually. Thanks so much Chelleface90  Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoyed.
