"Lola, we need to leave!" Loraine yelled.
"Ok!" I started to saunter down the steps. Hey, I didn't really wanna be there anyway.
"Quicker!" Layla urged.
"Why? We have, like, 5 hours." I sassed.
"Hey, I know you are trying to avoid it, but your gonna have to do this eventually." Lara told me.
"So that can be in 50 years?" I asked.
"No, it's now. Now get your butt in the car and let's go." As my sisters turned around I started to mock Lara.
"Now get your butt in the car and blah blah blah." I mumbled. Layla snickered.
"What?" My other two sisters asked.
"Nothing." She replied. All four of us hopped into Lara's car and she started it. We started to drive, nearly running into three trees within the 5 minute ride. I don't know why we didn't just walk; heck, we live on the beach. It would be a way to avoid Lara's terrible driving. Seriously, how'd she even get her license?
"Ok guys, we're here." Lara said as she parked the car. We got out and started to climb the cliffs.
"Now, the transformation may hurt a bit. Once you do it a few times, it's easy and you don't feel a thing. But the reason why we have a tail is because it has more power."
"Blah, blah, blah. Just get on with it already. I don't wanna be here and this is a huge waste of my time. Not to mention, this siren stuff has ruined my life." I snapped.
"Uh, ok. Get in the water then." Lara said, she extended the "ok" in the sentence. I feel like sisters were shocked from the sudden mood swing. Like, two days ago I was all unicorns and rainbows and now I'm like...well, a siren. I sat through the painful transformation then heaved myself out of the small pool of water.
"Lara, an I gonna kill someone? Cause I don't wanna do that!"
"None of us do. Just sing." Lara started the song, then Layla and Loraine followed. Lara nodded her head at me; a signal that told me to start. I let the soft notes escape from my mouth. It harmonized perfectly so with my sisters' voice. That never happened before. As the ship got closer to the rocks, my sisters sang louder, I followed their lead. The ship neared its watery grave, until it finally crashed into the jagged tower of rocks. My sisters ceased their voices and their legs returned...so did mine.
"Lara, can I go for a swim? I promise I won't go in mermaid territory." That may be a lie. It depends.
"Fine, just be back by 1am. And if mom or dad sees you come in, tell them that you left your shoes out there. That way we'll vouch for you. Got it?" Lara ordered.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I cheered. I quickly climbed down the rocks.
"And be careful! Don't get into trouble!" Layla yelled. I ran onto the beach. There was a small bonfire...it was odd. Who starts a fire at 12 something in the morning? I started to slow down, not wanting to be heard. I hid behind a rock.
"Aren't you supposed to be in bed?" I let out a loud scream. Crap.
"Oh my god! What is WRONG with you?!" I yelled at the Sea Witch.
"You will not eat me today, bear!"
"And what's wrong with y-Preston? Why are you out so late? Shouldn't you have left..I don't know, last night? You know, Jackie is gonna kill you if you don't go."
"And aren't you supposed to be singing songs to sailors and luring them to their death?" He said matter-of-factually.
"FYI, I already did that. And you shouldn't be talking, you throw nets on innocent people."
"But you kill innocent people."
"And I wouldn't have to if Jackie had just left me alone!" I snapped.
"Right, I'm still not understanding this." He said.
"My sisters made a deal with the Sea Witch." I said as it was something hat happened everyday.
"And they did it just so she would leave me alone. So basically, it's her fault while we are in this situation." I said.
"Oh. I guess you are off the hook. I'm sorry for yelling at you...a lot." He apologized.
"Me too." I replied as I untangled myself from the net.
"So...who's that?" He asked as he gestured to the Sea Witch.
"I'm the Sea Witch. I have to constantly check in on Lola because she has no idea what's she's doing." She introduced herself.
"Lola is clueless 50% of the time." Preston said.
"That is so not true. Yes, when I was 5 I would chase butterflies when I played soccer, but what 5 year old didn't do that?" I argued.
"So, does the Sea Witch have an actual name?" He asked.
"I have no idea. She tells me nothing." I said. We chatted for a bit. When I say "we" I mean Preston and I, the Sea Witch left.
"Shoot! I was supposed to be home an hour ago. I gotta go! See you tomorrow!" I yelled as I made my way to my house.
"Bye, Lola." I walked inside and quietly shut the door.
