I woke up on the sand. The first thing I did was puke. Gross, I know.
"What happened?" I sat up, but instead of legs I had a gleaming marine blue tail.
"And you're mad at me? You could've at least told me that you were a siren!"
"No, not exactly. I knew this would destroy our friendship! Mers and sirens aren't meant to be! They are enemies! Huge ones!"
"Well, I still would've been your friend! Maybe not now. Oh, and I clearly know why you were acting so weird."
"Hey! You wouldn't understand everything I've gone through! I've gone through months of being tired, paranoid, and all these weird things happening to me! Who grows scales over night?"
"I understand perfectly! I'm part fish, Lola!"
"But none of this happens to you! All that happens is that you pop a tail when you submerge yourself in water. You don't have blue streaks in your hair, or scales on your ankles, or your as pale as a ghost. And at least you sleep well! It feels like I only get an hour a sleep each night! And you don't have to use your voice to lure sailors to their doom!" I snapped. My tail was dry and turned into my legs again. I grabbed my bag.
"I'm never talking to you again, Lola."
"I can't believe we were even friends! I'm not talking to you either!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!" I stormed off toward my house and he went the opposite way toward his house. My loud stomps echoed under the hollow, wooden steps of my porch. I slammed the door, probably hard enough to break the glass windows on it. Luckily, they remained in place.
"Oh, Lola! Thank goodness your back! We were worried something happened to you!" Layla said as she hugged me. I shoved her out of the way.
"Hey! What was that for?!" She exclaimed. I ignored her and went up to my room. I slammed the door again.
There was always one thing that calmed me down: a nice, warm bath with epson salt. I went into the cabinet and saw a note.

Take a bath in the sea water, it works even better. There's a barrel of it up in the attic, we use it all the time ;)

I put the note in my desk drawer and grabbed a bucket. I walked up to the attic and filled the bucket with the water. I took it downstairs and poured it in my bathtub. I did that three more times until the tub was 3/4 full. I took off my clothes and climbed into the tub.
"This is ni-argh!" Right, the pain of transforming. I saw the marine blue tail in front of me. Crap, all I can do is sit here.
"Lara, can you get my phone please?" I yelled.
"What?" She yelled.
"My phone! Can you get it?" I responded.
"Where is it?"
"On my dresser!" I heard her running up the steps and she entered my room.
"Where are you?"
"Look in the bathroom." Lara opened her head around the doorframe.
"I guess this wasn't the birthday you expected." She told me as she handed me my iPhone.
"No. Definitely not."
"Hey, you get used to it. Maybe I should start calling you Fish sticks. After all, you are part fish and you used to love those things when you were a four year old."
"Hey!" I splashed water on her with my tail. Like, lots of it.
"Lola!" I smiled.
"Think of it as an early gift." I told her. She glared at me.
"Don't ask for help when you can't get out of the tub." I narrowed my eyes at her.
"Think of it as a birthday gift." She walked to her room, probably to shower and change her clothes. I sat in the tub. Even though I was trying to relax, it wasn't working. The fear of tonight echoed in my head, and what would happen between Preston and I.
Sorry that it's so short. I may not get to publish again until Friday. School and art and everything. I'll post some art next chapter. Hope you enjoyed and thanks for reading!
