I woke up the next morning smiling like never before. All I could think was when would be the next time I would get to see him. The next time I could kiss him. After I took a shower my phone started ringing..
"Hello? Who is this?"
"I had an amazing time last night."
"Ah so I see you put your number in my phone."
"Well I didn't know how to ask, so I put it in there while you were sleeping. You don't mind do you?"
"No I love getting random calls in the middle of the day" I could tell he heard the sarcasm in my voice because he started laughing.
"So when will we go on our second date?"
"I don't know." On the other end there was a lot of yelling coming from a woman.
"Uh I have to go, see at school Monday." And he hung up the phone. Who was that? I threw my hair up in a bun and put on a big t-shirt and some leggings and headed downstairs to help Kenzie with her math homework. We sat down at the kitchen table and I started to explain to her how to multiply fractions. She was doing some practice problems and all of a sudden she dropped her pencil and ran up stairs. She said nothing. I ran after her up to the bathroom and she closed the door on me.
"Kenzie? Are you ok?" She didn't say anything. "Kenzie?" Still no response. "Are you ok? Talk to me." The toilet flushed and the sink ran. She came out scared and shaking. "What's wrong?" She looked up at me almost crying.
"I'm bleeding."
"Where?"
She looked down. Oh no. She just got her period. Wait she is too young to have that."Well I think you started your period, but your really young to have started. Ok there are some pads underneath the sink just put one on and wait I'm going to call dad." I ran to my room and called my dad. "Uh dad? So Kenzie started her period." I heard a chuckle on the other end. "But, she is very young to have gotten it we need to take her to the hospital this isn't normal."
"Ok I'm on my way." And he hung up the phone. I walked back to the bathroom.
"Dad is on his way. Is there blood anywhere?" She shook her head and looked down.
As soon as my dad got home we rushed to the hospital. I looked over at Kenzie she looked pale and weak. To weak to move. I carried her in the hospital and we got her in immediately. We were in the waiting room for what felt like forever until the doctor came out. He had a sad but somewhat confused look on his face. My dad and I were the only ones there because it was so late at night. The doctor sat in front of us to get our attention.
"Hello I am Doctor Wilson and your daughter has something I have never seen before. We may need to go into another room for this." We followed him into this conference room and sat down. "Your daughter is not on her period. I wasn't able to understand why she was bleeding so I took only a little blood sample, and there is something in your family perhaps on your wife's side. I don't really know exactly what it is, but your daughter started to get it. Get this somewhat power. But her body isn't accepting it. You can see it as a virus. Her body sees it like that, and is trying to fight it off. But, the 'power' is already in most of her that if it were to be killed off it will kill her. Most of the 'power' is in her brain. See." He showed us a MRI of her brain. "See the black parts?" He pointed to different parts where there was black. "That is where the activity is happening."
"Is there anything you can do?" My dad asked.
"We will try everything in our power to keep her healthy, but there is already so much in her brain it would be too dangerous to try and do anything."
"What does this mean?"
The doctor sighed and said, "There is a good chance she might die."
"How is she right now?"
"She is holding up but not for long we want to keep her over night to run a couple tests and see how she does with them. If they work then we will be in good shape. You should both go home and get rest. You will be able to see her in the morning." He nodded and left the room. My dad took my hand.
"Will everything be okay with her?" I squeezed his hand.
"I'm not going to lie and say everything will be okay, all we can do is hope." We walked out to the car, and headed home.
