Kellin's POV
Saturday
Standing on the patio of Justin's house, where I knew Jack to be staying over, I had let go of the small fight we had yesterday in the mall. I was to eager to tell them what had happened with Jinx. (She insisted I called her by her nickname, and never mention her real name).
I wanted to tell them what she had said about being on her last chance, and trying to get used to everyday life; making friends with people and such. I wanted them to give her a chance like I did.
"Hey." Justin said as he opened the door. His lips were pursed as he leant in the door frame. "I tried calling you, and texting you, but you didn't respond."
"Phone was flat. When did you become so clingy?" I joked. It was my way of letting him know I was sorry.
He opened the door wider so I could come in. His way of letting me know my apology had been accepted. He grinned, taking away my nerves.
"I'm not clingy at all, babe." He said in a high pitched, feminine voice. We laughed. "Jack and I are watching Saw. What are you doing?"
"Walking up your stairs." I replied. "To come and watch Saw with my buds."
Justin's room was a mess; looking not unlike my room. Almost every inch of the floor was covered by clothes, books, anything really. There was only a small portion of space in the middle of the room where you could actually see the floor. Justin and I simply stepped over the mess, as it had been there for so long. It seemed like every time he picked a shirt up off the floor, he dropped one too.
"Hey Jack." I said as I entered the room, flopping down onto the beanbag, half on his lap.
"Get off me fat ass!" He exclaimed, peering over my shoulder at the movie. Then he paused and looked at me for a moment. "Hi. But move!"
I laughed as I got up off of him, instead retreating to sit on the bed to watch the movie, while Justin sat atop a pile of clothes next to the beanbag. I had come late into the movie, so it wasn't long before the credits were rolling down the black screen.
I decided that this was the right time to bring Jinx up, as they were picking another movie. They seemed to think so too.
"So, what happened when you left us at the mall the other day?" Jack asked, as Justin fussed over what movie to watch or game to play next.
"I was just going to tell you." I mused. "Well, someone tried to rob the chemist – no, it wasn't Jinx. But they saw her hiding from them, and then they started chasing her, so I started chasing them–"
"Wait, wait. Who is 'they?'" Jack said, lost.
I sighed. "The two guys who did rob the chemist." He nodded. "Anyway, they lost her and then I ran into them, and they thought I was like in her gang or something."
The way I told the story; you would think it was an action movie. "Then Jinx came back and they started having this really heated conversation, but it turns out she was just stalling them, waiting for the cops to turn up. When they realised that, one of them punched her in the face so she kneed him in the balls, grabbed me, and we ran."
"Where did you and your surprise lover go?" Justin teased.
I ignored the lover part, and kept telling my story. "K-Mart, to hide. She told me off for chasing her first and told me to stay out of her business, but then she said she didn't really hate me. She told me that the law was giving her one last chance, to fit in. Like, live everyday life and make friends. All that stuff."
As I told them the rest of what she said, they seemed to be easing up to her a little more. That was good. If I was going to try being her friend; I didn't want my other friends to snob her.
"And then I caught the bus home." I finished breathlessly.
"Wow." Jack said. "So your going to try fuck her?" He said.
I frowned, blushing. "No, I just want to be friends with her. Or at least try."
"Kay. If she robs you, I'm not lending you lunch money." Justin joked.
Soon after that, Justin finally picked a movie, and we settled down to watch it again. This one was a comedy. We could t stop laughing, even over the tiniest things. We were just like that. At one point, Jack had yelled out, 'That's what she said!' And we had to pause the movie to regain our breath.
I went home late, when my father called me and said he wanted me home for dinner.
When I did get home, I found the kitchen looking like someone had thrown a smoke bomb in it. I coughed as I entered the room. My mom and dad were at the oven, desperately trying to fend off the smoke with their hands.
"This is why we don't fucking cook!" My mother exclaimed in frustration.
"It's okay babe." My dad said, kissing her cheek and wrapping his arms around her waist. "I'll clean this up while you go and order some pizza. We can watch a movie or something."
To annoyed to argue, my mom left for the lounge, giving me a quick greeting and a pat on the shoulder as she passed by me. My dad opened the windows and the smoke started to go away. He looked over to me, as if he was finally noticing that I was there.
"Hey. Whatcha been doing?" He asked as he started to clean up.
"Nothing much. Just watched some movies at Justin's house." I replied. "I'm starving."
My dad chuckled. "Good, because your mom's ordering pizzas."
"Yum."
And so, on that Sunday night, I feasted on pizza. Then when I went to bed I drowned in my thoughts for Monday. I wasn't sure how to make friends with someone as guarded as Jinx. I definitely wanted to try it though. She seemed like she would be a good friend to have once you broke through. Loyal.
But did I just want to be friends with the girl with the neon hair?
