“Let’s celebrate!” I told Luna as I dragged her to our mini bar. “What for?” Luna asked curiously. I cannot hide my excitement and with that said I can’t help but to let out a squeal. Luna got more curious and it seemed like she was already seconds close to calling a psychiatric facility.
She asked me again. “What is it?”
“He asked me to come to dinner with him tonight.” I answered.
“So?”
I then told her my assumption that he might propose to me. I can feel that he’s going to say something important tonight. His voice was croaky due to nervousness I think and why would he be nervous about something? Unless…
Luna joined me in squealing and hugged me right away. Then before I knew it we were already jumping up and down like little kids.
“I think congratulation is already at hand. Don’t forget your promise that I’ll be the one who will design your wedding dress, aye?” she responded.
“Of course” I grinned.
We popped a bottle of wine and began to have a good time. We toasted as she wished the best for James and I.
Chapter 6
He picked me up at exactly 6 in the evening. I hugged him as soon as he got off the car. We exchanged kisses before stepping into the car. The car was filled with silence while we were travelling. This is nerve wracking. I thought to myself. I turned the radio on and started singing the song that was playing. James gave me a stare and I grinned.
“It’s too quiet, it’s killing me.” I reasoned.
He smiled back at me.
“So, where are we going?” I asked him.
“I made a reservation at the bistro.” He replied.
“My favorite” I winked.
I watched him while he was driving. It does look like he’s glum. Maybe it’s because of the proposal. I hope that my instincts are correct. I can’t help but ask if he’s alright. He nodded.
We arrived at our destination and he opened the car door for me. The waitress ushered us to our seats and he started ordering right away. He ordered wine and asked the waitress to give us a minute. The wine arrived and because of my nervousness I finished the first glass in one drinking. He started drinking also but he did not utter any word. I was waiting for him to say anything but he’s just right in front of me, bowing his head down. I decided to say something but as soon as he saw me open my mouth he spoke.
“I can’t do this anymore Marge.” Can’t do what? Now I’m confused. And then it hit me. He’s breaking up with me.
No, it can’t be. I started shaking. Then he continued.
“I’m sorry Margaret for being dishonest. It just happened. That’s why I need to break up with you.”
“I don’t understand.” I countered him.
“I felt that we were growing apart these past few months then Hannah came into my life and I was tempted.” he sighed. “I love her Marge but I was afraid to hurt you so I decided not to break up with you. I have come to my senses and I think even though its heart breaking, it had to be done.” He tapped my hand.
I felt like someone ripped my heart out.
“How can you do this to me?” tears rolled down my face as I looked unto his.
“Sorry, we can still be friends if you want.” He touched my face and looked straight to my eyes.
I couldn’t grasp what’s happening. I stormed out of the restaurant and hailed a cab.
I burst into tears as soon as I got into the house. I hurriedly went upstairs, grab my car keys and drove to Luna’s place.
Luna looked devastating when she saw me at her doorstep.
“What happened to you?”That’s the first thing she said when she saw entered her house and told her everything.
