Chapter 8

10 months, I sighed. It’s been ten months since James and I parted. Here I am, lying in bed and staring at the ceiling of my room. Call me bitter but I still hope that one day he will be at my doorstep asking to give him another shot. When I close my eyes, I can still remember his raspy voice that entices me with sweet nothings. I remember his lovely smile. I honestly miss him.

But this has got to stop. I had lived in a fantasy. I have to accept the fact that he left me. Because of my actions, I’m only making a fool out of myself.

I made an effort to change my aura today. I’m up for positivity.  I braided my hair sideways and wore skinny jeans with matching corset top. All of which are black.  I took a deep breath and forced a smile. As I went down the stairs I noticed my mom talking to a voluptuous woman about her age.  She was in her corporate attire so I assumed that it was just one of mom’s clients.

Mom noticed me and she called my attention. The woman turned to my direction and smiled at me.

“Margaret, this is adelaida Salazar. She’s a dear friend of mine.”

I shook Adelaida’s hand. “She’s a professional dancer and a businesswoman at the same time.” Mom continued.

I paid my respects to Mrs. Salazar. “Hello Mrs. Salazar. It’s been a pleasure meeting you. My mom talked about you a lot.”

“Hello darling.” She replied. “Your mom’s right. You are such a pretty girl.”

I blushed. “Thank you.”

As I make my exit, mom asked me to come home early. I nodded.

As I was in my car I can’t help but think on what my mom will tell me.

I just hope it’s not about my relationship with James.

It’s been a long day in the studio. I spent most of my time checking up on each of the events that I will be handling. I feel so worked out upon arriving at my residence.

When I entered the house, mom was at the living room, waiting for me on the couch.

I sat by her side and started the discussion.

“What’s the problem?”

Mom sat closer to me and held both of my hands.

“Dear, this past few months have been tough on you. It’s been a while since you had a relationship and I think you should go out and date someone and move on.”

Dating… great, just great.

“My good friend, adelaida may be able to solve your problems.” She drew close to me and held my hands tighter.

“She has a son, a very handsome young man that she’d like you to meet.  Her son is …”

I got so irritated I decided to cut her off.

“Are you trying to set me up for Mrs. Salazar’s son?!” I commented in disbelief. I stood up upon saying this I can’t help it but I was really hurt that she did that. She’s playing as a matchmaker again and she doesn’t even take into consideration her daughter’s feelings.

Angered, I continued talking.

“What do you plan on doing? For us to “get to know each other” and the next thing I know you’ll be planning for our marriage!”

She tried to reason with me. She looked offended but that doesn’t erase the anger that I felt for her.

“He’d be the best guy for you. This is more serious than you think it is.  Adelaida told me that she wanted her son to start a family but the problem is he doesn’t have a girlfriend yet. It is a great advantage to her business and ours.”
