"Ever thought of taking an art class?"
Enjolras scowled as those words ran through his head. He and Joly had needed a fine arts credit, and Joly had suggested art. Enjolras himself had thought it would be an easy credit.
"What a joke." Enjolras said in irritation, fiddling around with his paintbrush.
He'd been working on his painting for an hour now, and it still didn't look like anything at all. With a discouraged shake of his head, He put away his paints and washed paintbrushes. Next to him, Joly had put his things away, and had a half-finished painting of a dew-drop covered rose on his canvas. Enjolras looked around, seeing that most of the other students had made enough progress that you could tell what they had planned. Looking back at his own canvas, he choked down a frustrated shout.
"Something wrong?" Enjolras was startled by a pair of dark eyes staring into his own, an eyebrow raised curiously. Of course. Grantaire, the best painter in the school.
"No, nothing's wrong. Everything's just fine." The blond spat. He wanted nothing to do with the curly haired brunette.
Grantaire seemed not to hear Enjolras though, instead focusing on his painting.
"This is interesting. What's it supposed to be? Notre Dame?" Enjolras' eyes widened in surprise.
"Yes..."
"It looks nice. You went just a bit too heavily with the blacks, and the sky is a bit messy, but otherwise..." Grantaire smiled. "It's a nice painting."
"Right, and I'm the queen of France."
"No, I'm serious! I mean, I could help you with it, if you want..." Enjolras cocked his head.
"Why would you want to help me? You can paint much better than I can, you could be painting something else instead of fixing my mess."
Grantaire shook his head. "Like I said, it doesn't need much fixing up. Besides, I said I'd help a bit, so you'd be doing most of it. Just think about it, it's due tomorrow, after all."
Enjolras frowned with a heavy sigh. Thinking it over, it wasn't a bad idea, and it would help his grade...of course, this was Grantaire he was talking about, interested in nothing but art. He'd seen Grantaire dozing off in their government class, except for some reason, whenever Enjolras had a chance to speak. The brunette was always attentive during those incidents, but Enjolras was sure it was mockery he saw in those dark eyes.
Grantaire was still standing there waiting for an answer when Enjolras said, "Fine, I'd appreciate it if you helped me. Can you stay after school tomorrow?" Grantaire nodded.
"Sure. I'll meet you here when the bell rings. Speaking of bells..." The class ended, and Grantaire slung his messenger bag over his shoulder. He waited until Enjolras was all packed up, then smiled.
"See you after school, Apollo," he said with a wink, and left. Enjolras felt himself flush as he watched Grantaire leave. Hopefully he hadn't made a wrong decision to work with the other art student.
