Ash and Serena lined up side by side, facing another couple of opposite genders. "It's an honor ash" the girl said smiling. 'Wait, me...' ash thought. "You have a lot of second places, but if course I'm not going to let you get that far" she continued.
It was a surprise anyone recognized him. The second placers in tournaments are almost immediately forgotten, but some how she knew of his battling record. "And of course, Misses Yuvone, also an honor" the boy added in. "Enough chatter" Serena replied, surprising everyone. She was the polite, quiet queen, but she treated them like equals, a quality most would be confused at, but ash admired.
"Trainers ready" the referee said, raising his flag "Begin!" And each side sent out their Pokémon. Opposite from ash the boy sent out an emolga, which was a strange choice. The thing didn't seem to really be that strong. The girl across from Serena sent out a garchomp. It's menacing presence seemed to overpower its partner. It was no question who they were going to send out, as sylveon and pikachu had already made their way onto the battlefield during the banter. With that, the battle truly began. "Earthquake" commanded the girl, as her garchomp sent powerful waves coursing through the ground. The attack was especially strong on pikachu, given the type matchup. "Emolga, discharge!" the other trainer commanded before ash and serena could react. Each attack used by the opposing pokemon didnt affect the other. It was a smart strategy. Emolga floating above the earthquake, and garchomps ground typing nullifying the electricity.
Ash himself was not at all daunted by this tricky adversary. They had a strong synergy, but alone were weak compared to his pikachu. They had been training for years, and that wasn't going to go to waste. "THUNDER!" ash commanded. The powerful attack knocked out emolga after one strike. "Wha..." the boy said, nearly crumbling to the ground in defeat. "Sylveon, moonblast!" serena commanded as the ball of light shot towards the dragon type. The super effective attack hit head on, nearly knocking garchomp out.
The female trainer smiled. Then ash recognized it. Garchomp was holding an assault vest, which raised its special defensive at the cost of other defensive options. Thats why sylveon didst one hit ko it. 'No matter' he thought to himself. "Quick attack" he commanded, and pikachu shot forward finishing off the large dragon ground type. "The battle is over. Ash Ketchum and Mrs. Yuvone are the winners!" the announcer said, as the crowd erupted.
'still no real challengers' ash thought.
