As the party went on, Gary went off with some group of girls. Ash, on the other hand continued to hang around the food table. People would occasionally come by, and say hi to him. Some even recognized him as a Pokémon battler. Ash didn't really know them, but had seen some people on TV, as many celebrities were at this party. Ash just continued to eat, as the food was great.
Tapping sounds were heard on the microphone as another person was now standing. "One final announcement" they said "I hope you all are having fun, but I have another special thing to tell you. As many of you are Pokémon battlers, I am glad to announce a tag team Pokémon tournament! Just enter your name up here" he shook a bowl full of papers "and we will pick you and a partner. Who knows, maybe you'll be with the kalos queen herself! So again, enter your name up here, and we will pick partners shortly. Now continue on having fun!" And with that he walked away.
'So one person gets to battle beside Serena' Ash thought to himself. The idea sounded cool, two friends re united by luck. Sounded like some cliche fanfiction on the internet. Still, it wouldn't hurt him to have a reason to talk to her. It had always been awkward when he left... the kiss...
"Ok. Now we will draw names for battle partners" the announcement pulled Ash out of his day dream. He had forgotten to put his name in. HE FORGOT! Ash mentally face-palmed. He knew the idea of him being with Serena was just like some cliche fanfiction.
"And finally, if you entered and haven't heard your name you know who you are. The partner to Miss Yvonne herself... Ash Ketchum!" Ash's eyes widened at that. HOW WAS HE CHOSEN! HE DIDNT PUT HIS NAME IN! But he didn't really ask questions, because he actually was excited at the chance, no matter how cliche, to meet Serena.
"Hey ashy boy" a voice said behind him "congrats on getting with the Queen" it was Gary. "I didn't actually put my name in though, so I'm confused" ash replied. "Yea, well I put you in. Oh, and did you know they choose the queens partner before they even draw! It's usually someone popular, and they chose me. Probably because my grandfather was the one who helped set a lot of this up. Now I was honored at the idea of being with Mrs Yvonne, but by the way you looked at her performance, you two seemed perfect together, soooo I pulled a few strings. Good luck" and with that Gary walked away, leaving his best friend, whose cheeks were bright red.
On one side, Ash was angry at his friend for doing this. It would be awkward to meet her again, but on the other hand, this would be a chance to close any gaps left by him leaving. Yea... close gaps... nothing more...
