A Little Party Never Killed Nobody

One more hour and my shift was over. That's what I kept telling myself but that hour was moving along like the worlds slowest sloth and I was becoming irritated, not that I could show it. Being a waiter had its downsides. A lot of downsides actually. There was almost always some hitting on me, old white men, teenage boys, I even had a girl hit on me once. I was the most flattered by her though. She was really nice.

Then there's the pay and the fact that my coworkers don't like me. I was the dishwasher first but got switched to waitressing because I got along with the boss well. Its not like I took somebody's job, the restaurant was actually short one waitress so I just filled that position. I guess it just happened so fast that it upset everyone. One day I was a dishwasher, the next a waitress. Not much I can do to change their minds.

As soon as it hit eight o'clock, I was geared up and ready to leave. I punched out my time card and waved goodbye to the chef who shouted, "Have a good day Miss Theresa!"

"Bye Terrance!" I shouted back before beginning to head to the entrance. I sighed lightly, knowing I was going to have to walk home. I adjusted the strap of my purse as I weaved through tables and put my hand to my pocket when my phone buzzed. Pulling it out, I glanced down at Meghan's contact and smiled. "Hey Meghan, what's up?"

"You just get off work?" She asks.

"Um, yeah. How'd you know?"

"You usually get off at eight. I'm outside right now to pick you up. Hurry up before the vallet tries to take my car from me." I laugh, shaking my head.

"Thank you for picking me up."

"Of course, now get your butt out here." She hangs up as I push open the door to the restaurant.

"Hey Ollie!" I say lightly to the Valet. He smiles at me.

"Off shift?" He asks.

"Of course and I can't wait to go home. See you later!" Ollie waves as I get into Meghan's car. She shifts out of park and pulls off the curb just in time for someone else to pull in.

"So how was work?" Meghan asks.

"Meh."

"Is that always going to be your answer?" She says with a roll of her eyes.

"Maybe. There's not much to it. Customers are.. Annoying and demanding and it's long and tedious work." She's shaking her head at me so I know what she's going to say next.

"Shouldn't have gone into customer service."

"What else is there?"

"Hmm.." She begins, tapping her chin. "How about asking your boyfriend for money since, you know, he has tons of it and he's willing to burn through it jut for you."

"Meghan." I start.

"What? He loves you and he loves spending his money. So let him spend money on you."

"Maybe when we're married." Meghan scoffs.

"Please, even when you're married you're probably going to demand that you still work and pay for your share of dinner when you two go out."

"Meghan, I'm going to college to get a degree. I'm not going to waste my parents money by not using it. Otherwise what would be the point?"

"To apologize you could just buy them a new house or nice cars or something like that." I laugh as she says this. "Its true. I'm sure they wouldn't mind." She pauses. "Have you spoken to them recently?" I shrug.

"Not really. My mom is still upset about loosing her job. Dad is trying to get her back on her feet." I sigh. "I have to go home and see them. Its been too long"
