Sam and I ended up settling on watching some action movie on Netflix while we waited on dinner and for Brad to leave.

A few minutes after the movie began I heard the front door open and close, signaling Brad's exit. I was relived he has finally left even if he was only here a short time.

Simpson. Derek Simpson, my dad's business partner. It makes sense. I just never connected the last names before. I never really knew much about Derek's family because he would just come around by himself to talk to my dad or they would just see each other at work. With the business just officially opening yesterday Derek has been around here a lot lately. He lives in the same town as us which is about 20 minutes from Boston, where his and my dad's business is. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Brad is his son. I can't believe I didn't realize before.

Sam hasn't said a word to me since he told me he didn't want my parents to know. I didn't want my parents to know either, I wouldn't want to cause any troubles between Derek and my dad. I bet Derek doesn't know how much of a dick his son is.

I'm sitting in chemistry listening to my teacher drag on about who knows what. I've got an empty seat next to me because it's the second day in a row that Sam hasn't been in school and he never misses a day. I haven't even gotten a simple text from him just to tell me he is okay. I'm starting to get a little worried about him, I hope everything is ok.

I decide to push Sam to the back of my mind and try to focus on my work for the rest of the day...

Finally it's the end of the school day and I get to go home. Just as I am walking out the door my phone vibrates in my back pocket. I slid it out and saw I had a new text from
Sam. It's about time.

*NEW MESSAGE- SAM*
Hey, Paige come by my house please, I need to talk to you. Sorry I haven't talked to you sooner

I texted back a quick reply telling him I would go to his house before I went home. I switched the direction I began to walk and started walking in the direction of Sam's house which was only about a 10 minute walk from the school.

As I walked I began to think what he needed to talk to me about and where he has been the last few days. He better have a good excuse for leaving me alone in chemistry.

Before I knew it I was approaching Sam's driveway. I was kinda upset that my walk was over because it was such a nice day out but I also just really wanted to know what was up with Sam. I walked up the front steps and knocked on the door a few times before I heard someone approaching the door. The door slowly opened until I could see who stood behind it. What I was faced with was something that I did not expect.

Sam with double black eyes and a cast on his right arm.

"What the hell happened to you!?" I ran into Sam's arms, careful not to hug him too harshly because of his appearance.

"Umm well that's kinda what I wanted to talk to you about.." Sam replied with a sad face. I was getting really nervous, who did this to him?

"Uh ok where do you want to go?" I hesitantly asked as I pulled away from his embrace.

"Let's go up to my room"

"Okay" I followed Sam as he slowly made his way up to his bedroom. I could tell he was having a tough time getting up the stairs. He opened the door and we went in and I sat down on the edge of his bed while he grabbed his water from his side table. He slowly sat down next to me and I turned so I could face him better.

"I went to the hospital the other night"

"Well yeah I kinda figured that I mean you do have a cast," I said pointing down to his limp arm, "why exactly did you go to the hospital is what I want to know."

"I was getting to that," Sam half laughed before his face turned serious again, " Well someone kinda attacked me..."

"What? what the fuck? why? who?" I almost yelled wanting to know who the hell would hurt Sam he never did anything to anybody.

"It.. It was Brad Simpson, you know the one in our chemistry class." Brad was not really one to come off as a 'tough guy' or whatever. He was just an average kid I guess he did have some friends that were popular but I wouldn't really see him as the bully type.

"Yeah why would he do this?"

"I don't know I was just stopping by the convenience store on my home from Connor's party to grab some gum and I guess he followed me there," Connor was also in our grade and was a good friend of Sam's " he has been being rude to me lately and I'm not really sure why. He started throwing punches at me, I tried to fight him off a bit until he grabbed my neck. He was basically strangling me that's the last thing I remember I think I blacked out I woke up in the hospital. He told the cops someone else had done it and that he was trying to help so he would get off easy. I think they questioned him, but since I wasn't really in a state to defend myself they let him go," Sam choked out, "he's lying to everyone about it."

I opened my mouth to speak as I grabbed ahold of Sam again giving him a hug, "Well all that matters is that we know the truth," I whispered softly into his ear.

I'm broke from my thoughts when my mom calls Sam and I down for dinner. I stood up and walked over to my mirror before again fixing up my hair to look a little more presentable and fixing my sweater I had on so it didn't look like I was sitting in bed. Sam got up and silently followed me down the stairs.

I walked through the living room before the delicious smell of my moms food hit my nose.

"Mmm smells go-" I stopped mid-step as I took in the scene in front of me.

My mom
My dad
Derek
A woman (most likely Derek's wife)
And ..
BRAD all sat around the table for supper...
