【Growing Distance】|Chapter Nine

(NAME) slipped on a plain white button-up shirt and slowly fastened the button using the tips of their fingers.They put on a pair of dark maroon coloured trousers that seemed to match their shirt and pulled the dark brown boots onto their feet.They fastened the straps attached to their boots and tapped the heels against the hard floor.Slowly,the door creaked open as their figure slipped pass the door that they locked soon after.The silver keys jingled in their grasp,before they stuffed them back into their black jacket's pocket.They strode down the corridors and into the elevator,after reaching the elevator they pressed one of the buttons,on the pad filled with various buttons of the same shape,which sent (NAME) down to the reception.

9:47 pm.

The sun had already set just a few minuted before.The warmth that the sun glossed over the streets of Tokyo had melted into the darkness together with the light that had arrived with it.The dim street lights were what replaced them,although,it did not give the same warmth and light that the sun gave.Instead,the people that populated the city of Tokyo were met face to face with the bitter cold that gnawed at their skin.

Almost frozen,(NAME) stepped into the hospital building.

She was greeted by the smiling face of a man in his early-20.His dark brown orbs,that were framed behind round circular black-framed glasses,had a glimmer light shinning within them as he stared back into (NAME)'s duller (E.C) orbs.His jet black hair was kept neat and tidy with a slight parting in his hair on the left side of his face.He had a soft-looking fringe that had spikier-looking ends that almost reach pass his eyes.He wore a black turtle-neck that was made of wool and a black blazer that was left open on top of it.Beside him was a young woman with nude coloured lips and natural-looking makeup that covered her rounded face.Her left hand had a band of silver around it and a few words were was engraved into it.He too had the same band around one of his fingers that matched hers with different words engraved into it.

"Hi,"He said with a gentle voice.The woman at his side turned to see (NAME),her lips curled up into a smile instantly.

"Hello,"(NAME) said feeling uneasy.

"Are you okay,ma'am?"He said slowly,concern grew in his voice.

"Y-yes,I'm fine thank you.I am here for a visit."His lips eased back into a smile.

"Sure,who are you here for madam?"His eyes softened as he spoke,the woman's eyes seemed to gleam with happiness as she glanced at the man before returning to her work.

"I'm here for—"(NAME)'s voice was muffled by the other voices that filled the room but the man was able to hear nonetheless.

"Ah,I see.Please,enjoy your visit Miss (L.NAME)."He said with the same wide smile as he stared back at the face of (NAME) which was filled with bewilderment.

How did he know my name? (NAME) internally questioned.

"T-Thank you..,"(NAME) said softly before walking towards the elevator to get to the third floor.Once (NAME) reached the third floor,(NAME) made their way towards room number 305.(NAME) slowly opened the door trying not to disturb the person inside.

"Hey,"(NAME) said before motioning towards the bed where (NAME) saw their love of three years.

Dying.

They had more tubes sunken into their skin than before and looked much more pale.Their body had become drained from warmth and they now resembled a corpse in a coffin.(NAME) reached out towards their face and placed their warm hand against their cheek.Tears were threatening to fall as they looked into the eyes of their former lover.

"I don't have much time,(NAME)..."

"Don't say that,"(NAME) pleaded as they brushed strands of the patient's hair away from their eyes.They slowly closed their eyes and remembered a time where (NAME) looked just as sad as they did now.

The sobs of a young person was heard by my ears only.I followed the sound of their weeps to find the body of a person with (H.L) (H.C) hair dressed in nothing but the colour of white.I believed that on this day,white had become my favourite colour.They turned around to face me with red teary eyes.They tried to wipe away the tears but it was futile,for the fresh tears replaced them shortly after.I stepped closer but was stopped by their demanding voice,

"Don't come closer!Please,go away!"They shouted out with streams of tears running down their face.I forced myself to get closer to them.I knew this person.They were important to me,and that's what I told them.

"No,I won't go."They lifted their face,anxiety was scribbled across their face.

"Please,don't come closer!"They repeated again.I was stubborn and did not listen,just like a stubborn child who would not listen to their authoritative mother.

"(NAME).Please,don't distance yourself from me."I embraced (NAME) tightly,afraid to let go.I looked into (NAME)'s eyes and felt a frown form on my face."Please,"I said trying to calm (NAME) down as best as I could.

This was the only time I saw (NAME) cry.

This was the only time I remembered.

From that day,I had decided to protect (NAME).Love (NAME).However,it seems that I was forced to give that position up.I now had a replacement that could fulfil this position like I once did.I am glad it was him.

He can protect (NAME).

He can love (NAME).

Because I no longer can,for my time has nearly been completely drained out.

"Haru?Are you okay?"(NAME) stared at Haru's shut eyes with a panicked expression.

"I can no longer feel anything,it's like I'm not living.Are these the effects of not eating properly?"

(NAME)'s eyes widened."Haru,haven't you been eating the food Iv'e been going out to get you every week?"

"(NAME).I won't lie to you anymore.So,..no..I have not been eating."

"Haru!You need to eat!I'll go now!You have to eat it!"

"It isn't food (NAME)."Haru said sternly.

"It is food!"

"Human remains is not food."(NAME) face fell sullen as they listened to Haru's stern voice."I can never be human...can I,(NAME)?"

"Haru..."

"I can never eat the same food you eat...nor can I do the same things that you can do."(NAME) pursed their lips before unbuttoning their shirt.Haru looked up and saw (NAME)'s unclothed skin,Haru stared at their bare shoulder and gulped.Haru held back as much as they could until Haru's sclera bled into black and the colour of red replaced Haru's pupils.Haru pulled (NAME) closer and opened their mouth wide.Haru pulled their head down towards (NAME)'s shoulder as (NAME) squeezed their eyes closed shut.Terrified.

(NAME) waited...and—

Haru had stopped.

(NAME) opened their eyes and looked straight forward as Haru rested their lips on (NAME)'s shoulder,slowly planting a kiss on the soft skin there.Haru's hair fell over (NAME)'s shoulder and tickled their skin softly.Haru had a hand over (NAME)'s other shoulder and side-eyed (NAME) without moving from their position.

"I will never hurt you,"Haru said.

(NAME) enveloped Haru into a hug and tightly wrapped their arms around Haru.Haru reciprocated and wrapped their arms around (NAME) just as tight.

"I will always love you,(NAME).No matter what,just know that my heart lies with you."(NAME) softly sobbed and Haru pulled back from the hug to reveal Haru's normal coloured orbs.Haru's crystal grey eyes were wide with shock as tears slipped from (NAME)'s (E.C) eyes.

"(NAME)...."Haru stared at (NAME) wide-eyed before they locked lips with (NAME) not able to hold back.Haru's lips were pale yet still soft,they both pulled back.(NAME)'s eyes were filled with shock.

"I think you should go,"Haru said turning away with a face of anguish.

"But—,"

"(NAME)—!Please,go."(NAME) slowly stood up as Haru's arms loosened,slowly releasing (NAME).Without another word,(NAME) had left.

10:37pm.

(NAME) had returned home and scrammed into bed and took in a deep breath before flopping onto the soft mattress of the bed.
