Ross' POV
45 minutes later
I got back to my room and everyone smiled at me. "Can I be left alone?" I asked as the nurse slowly helped me onto the bed. "Why Ross?" Riker asked "I just wanna be left alone okay?!" I snapped. "Calm down" the nurses ordered. I rolled my eyes. "Okay. I'll be back later?" Mom asked. I shrugged and she kissed my head. "Text me okay" she whispered. I nodded as everyone else left. The nurse sat opposite me. "You'll be fine" she told me. "Fine?" I snapped. "Are you serious?" She sighed. "I'm sorry. We're trying to do as much as we can" she told me. "It's too late"
7:30pm
I ran a hand through my hair as I sat up. I've been so horrible to everyone all day. I lifted up my phone and saw it died. "Fuck" I carefully stood up. I was hooked up to an IV again. I struggled to stand up straight as I stumbled o the seat by the phone. I dialled mom's number
"Hello"
"Hi mom" I mumbled
"Hi sweetheart. Are you okay?"
"I'm sorry about earlier. I got some bad news and took it out on everyone"
"It's okay honey. What was the news?"
"I'll tell you in person"
"Shall I come down?"
"No I'll see you tomorrow okay?"
"Okay honey"
"I love you"
"I love you too baby boy"
Mom hung up and I stood up slowly before walking towards the hospital door. I was in sweatpants and a t-shirt so no one could see anything really. I walked to the desk on my floor. My nurse was standing there looking through the files. I walked over and she glanced up "Ross! Why are you out of bed?!" She panicked. "I'm sorry for being so rude earlier" I mumbled. "It's okay honey. You got some bad news and it was hard to take. I understand that." She told me. "I feel horrible. I shouldn't have taken it out on you" I told her "hon you don't need to apologise. Now let's get you back to bed" she started Leading me back to the room. "I shouldn't have yelled at everyone" I whispered "it's okay sweetheart" she assured as we got to my room. She opened the door and led me to the bed. "Sleep hon" "I'm not tired" I told her "are you hungry?" She asked. I shook my head. "You haven't eaten all day hon" she told me. I shrugged "don't feel guilty. It's totally normal. I've been punched because someone got told something like yours. Not as bad but close. Bad news makes you do things you don't mean." She told me. She stroked my hair. "I did the same when my son died years ago. Pushed everyone away, yelled at everyone. It happens" "your son died?" I whispered. She nodded "19. He had cancer. He died two weeks after finding out. You remind me of him" she told me. I smiled slightly "sorry" I mumbled. She shook her head "shit happens" she smiled. I smiled and opened my arms. She hugged me. "I love you" she whispered. I smiled. "Love you too" she wasn't talking to me, she was talking to her son. "I'm gonna get you some food. You stay in bed" she ordered. I nodded slightly "see you in abit"
The next morning
9:45am
I opened my eyes and saw it was still dark. They don't usually turn the lights on on the ward until 10am unless there's been an incident in the night. That's been almost every night every time I'm in hospital. This means that they had a good night. The nurses will be in a good mood this morning. I glanced at the clock. Only 15 minutes. I pulled the covers up my body more and snuggled into my bed. Not as comfortable as my bed at home but it isn't horrible. I've felt worse. Much worse. Why am I even awake? I wanna go back to sleep but I'll be woken up in 10 minutes. I reached for my phone, shivering at the sudden cold on my hand. I looked at it and saw a text from mom
Hey baby. I hope you're okay ❤ I won't be able to make it today but dad is coming. Love you lots ❤
I smiled slightly.
Okay mom. Love you too.
I looked at my other texts.

I locked my phone before putting it on the side. I closed my eyes again as I smiled. I'm gonna see my best friends today. The lights turned on and I sighed.

"Morning honey" my nurse smiled. "Morning" I mumbled. I opened my eyes and saw her placing a tray down with food on. I pushed myself up and shivered. "Cold?" She asked. I nodded slightly. She wrapped s blanket around me. I furrowed my eyebrows. "I've gotten the hang of your routine now" she smiled. "My routine?" I asked. "You wake up just before 10 almost every morning. You're always cold when you wake up and like to relax for abit before breakfast but like having it close just incase you're hungry immediately. You then have tea and read or go on your phone. And then your day begins" she told me. I raised one eyebrow. "You're good" I smiled. She smiled "I know" she laughed, ruffling my hair. "My friends are coming today" I smiled slightly. She smiled "that's great" I nodded "I'm actually excited" I mumbled. "it's good that you are. You deserve to be happy"
