He knew he was being followed, he always knew when he was being followed; he was the master of stealth. He had sensed the presence of a feltus stronger than his and he wondered who else followed him aside Surune. In the meantime, he needed to mislead Surune; it had to be believable.

With spells he created the illusion of an alley few yards away from the main street. Genffaine then enchanted his cloak to make it move down the street without him and camouflaged in the shadows; Surune took the bait and followed it down the alley to the staged performance of Genffaine.

Surune landed some few yards away to listen to the noises that came from the shack Genffaine had entered. Genffaine came bursting out into the street ushering out some fugitives with his staff. One of them; an elderly man, pleaded for mercy but refused to release them.

"You must pay the price of evading the service of the throne" Genffaine scolded and led them back towards the road. The servants kept fleeing the castle since the rule of the Eagles began and Genffaine was tasked to bring them back to stand trail. He saw a character which he did not create in the scene,   from where he actually hid in the shadows.

"Spike!" Genffaine was thrown back and almost lost focus on his magic.

"What have you done with the kingdom? " the vision of the dead wizard asked. Spike was staring straight at him where he was hiding. "You betrayed the Order and rallied behind Alaidalene without seeking our salvation"

Genffaine thought he had seen a ghost until, swinging his staff, Spike attacked him with a spell.

He was forced to fight back and in the process cleared the illusion he had created. Surune was watching everything.

"Spike, wherever you came from you have to go back. And trust me, don't speak another word" Genffaine flashed Spike a vision of Surune eavesdropping on their conversation. Spike became quiet.

Surune flew away.

"Even when you are dead you keep bringing me trouble Spiken Cynthalith, you just blew my cover" Genffaine said with indignation.

Spike was dressed in the green robe in which he had died, his thick grey hair sprawling all over his shoulders.

The winds whistling above the trees of the city grew fierce and from the darkness a figure flapped its wings of fire and landed in front of them.

"Surune" Genffaine said with uncertainty.

"Cariman" said Spike.

"Spike?" said Cariman.

He was covered in golden feathers where there should be hair, and engulfed in fire.

"How are you here?" Cariman asked.

"I'm not really here Cariman" said Spike, "I'm using someone as a host-how are you having this power?"
" I found myself breaking out of a shell I have been encased in for some moons among the ruins of my garrison. I also happened to have wings, so I came to Crystalia  to meet those foul worms crawling all over it. How did this happen Genffaine?" Cariman moved towards Genffaine this time, but the heat emanating form Cariman made him move away. "I had to clean some off the streets"

"Yes what you have seen  is true. The land has been taken by the Eagles. We are under the rule of Alaidalene and her kingdom of dwarves and goblins" Genffaine said and looked from Spike to Cariman. "I'm suddenly envious of both your transformations" Genffaine said." But you can't defeat her now " Genffaine said.

"No- but we can frighten her-" said Spike.

"Where is Crysarnia now?" he asked Cariman.

" Alaidalene got rid of her in the woods where she sought refuge so you can die trying to take revenge or support me in my plans"Genffaine said.
