CRYSONAR

A weak whirlwind danced around the ruins of the camp. It was still taken over by ash and traces of smoke; the whole continent was covered in sooth. Encircling a chosen spot several times, the whirlwind suddenly grew to touch the sky, which abruptly spat out screaming men in cages that tumbled to the ground with force. The cages shattered from the impact.

"What do we do now?" one soldier called Pherlan asked, when they had recovered from the crash and broken free of their cages with little casualties.

"We...survive" said Barsithe.

"This is a cemetery" said a soldier as he looked around at the ruins. Most of the graves had been dugout leaving a few, and the exposed bodies left only with bones. "And we will join them if we stay,"

"I'm off to take care of my business, I haven't gone in a week. I was too proud to dump in my cell," said Sarffin running off just some few metres away from where they had all gathered and squat over one of the mounds after dragging his breeches to his knees to expose his shrivelled scrotum and genitals.

"Easy soldier" said Pherlan.

"This was Cariman's army," said Tikan looking around with recognition "show some respect"

"It's always been-run, run, and god help you if you don't run since I joined this army" Sarffin retorted. Pherlan sought to take his rest on a large rock probably smoothened into an oval shape from years of rain, but he jumped away with curses, claiming the rock burned him.

Sarffin still blabbered incessantly as he relieved him self, shouting out to the soldier who scouted the ruins.

"I learnt survival from my mother; she was as tough as a mule and the most uncultured woman you can ever meet on the surface of the Earth, aye Ereic?" said Sarffin pushing out the last of what was stuck in his bowels.

"Ugh!-Those bones are turning in the grave ure sitting on" Ereic said to Sarffin.

"You know his mother?" Pherlan asked Ereic.

"Of course, she gave birth to me and whatever that is over there" he cocked his head towards Sarffin on the mound. "I still can't believe I shared a womb with him-I have a cow that is smarter than he is. He's why we got caught and thrown into the dungeon if not we would not be here at all" Ereic replied.

"Well I doubt that cow will adjust as well as he has reaching here" Barsithe said and they all turned to look at Sarffin who was now relaxing on another grave looking into the sky.

"It will be dark soon, we have to scavenge to survive the night," Tikan commanded."No, sit down and rest Barsithe we'll take it from here"

Barsithe, who was limping away with the soldiers halted, he had sustained an injury to the leg from the fall.

"I am still younger than you Tikan, don't get any ideas" Barsithe said defensively, limped some few steps forward, and fell on his bum."Well, alright I'll stay" he surrendered.

The soldiers returned after a few hours of scavenging with barely enough wood to take them through the night,

Barsithe continually turned down their suggestion to supplement with the human skeletons. Barsithe looked around and heaved a sigh when they sat around the fire after dark.

"The sound of disaster before it strikes...silence," he said.

"You may be right there-wizard. I was living my life in silence managing a corn mill when disaster struck- my wife. She said if I married her, I would not have to worry about looking at another woman my whole life. I only got to know what she meant after she died," said Sarffin.
