A/N: This chapter is dedicated to @Amyanne52 Because she won my little contest last chapter. She created the new character, Emily.
Hermione's POV
I woke up the next day feeling a little upset about the detention I was going to have at the end of the day, but I got up and ready just the same. I was in the bathroom when I heard some yelling in the common room. It was just muffled, and the only person I heard was Draco. Who is he yelling at? I thought as I slowly walked out of the bathroom. I saw Draco standing in the middle of the room shouting, "Expecto Patronum!" Just as I entered the room, I saw a wolf emerge from his wand. It slowly stalked around the room, until Draco's eyes met mine, and it disappeared. (J.K Rowling said that Draco was never able to produce a patronus, so I don't know what his patronus is. I picked a wolf, because Draco is very loyal to his family, just like a wolf is to his pack.)
"You did it!" I said as I ran towards him enveloping him in a hug. He tensed up at first, but then he relaxed and hugged me back.
"Yeah, I can't believe I did it." He said as I pulled away from the hug.
"What memory did you use?"
"Remember when we snuck off to Hogsmeade, and we kissed?" I nodded and slightly blushed. "Well, I used that memory."
"Aww, well I feel honored." I joked. "Come on, let's go down to breakfast." I held his hand and pulled him along with me.
When we got to the Great Hall, we were a little late, and I didn't realise that we were still holding hands. We walked in together and everyone turned to look at us. Everyone looked shocked and I realised what it was. I practically jumped away from him and ran towards my seat at the Gryffindor table.
"Hey, Hermione," Ginny said, "What's with you and Professor Malfoy? You two look like you're dating."
"Ginny! That's absurd! That's against the rules." I replied, my cheeks flushing.
"Aww, look at you. It's got you all flustered."
"Shut up." I looked over at the staff table. Draco caught my eye and winked. I rolled my eyes. When I looked back over, Mcgonagall was going up to the podium.
"Good Morning, students. I would like to inform you that there is a new student joining us. She transferred from Beauxbatons, and we will be sorting her today." She walked out of the Great Hall, and everyone burst into whispers."Wow. A new student. I wonder what year she'll be in." I said excitedly to Ginny.
"I hope she's in our year." She replied just as Mcgonagall came back in. Behind her was a young teenage girl with dark brown hair that almost went down to her waist. She was pretty skinny and she walked in very shyly. Mcgonagall got th at out and she sat on the stool. The hat pondered for a moment before shouting, "Slytherin!" Everyone clapped as she made her way down to the Slytherin table.
"Now, everyone can go to their classes, but I want Hermione Granger and Emily Black to stay." Everyone left as I went up to Mcgonagall. "Hello, Miss Granger, today you and Emily will not go to classes. Since you're Head Girl, you will be showing her around today. All of the professors know that you will not be attending class, they will give you the work you miss tomorrow."
"Thank you,Professor." She walked out of the hall leaving me and Emily alone. "Hi, I'm Hermione." I said extending my hand for her to shake. She took it cautiously. Up close I could see her a little better. She had beautiful brown eyes, just a little darker than mine. She was very hesitant in everything she did or said, and I knew why. She was very shy, but I had a feeling that she can be talkative with the right people.
"I guess you already know my name." She joked.
"Okay. Hogwarts can get confusing. It took me awhile to get used to where everything is, so don't be afraid to ask me, or anyone else, if you can't find your classes."
"Okay."
"Come on." I said leading her out of the hall. We walked around the school the whole day. I showed her where all the classes were, and told her about all the different teachers, all the moving staircases, and all the trick steps on them. After she had seen all of Hogwarts, I brought her out to the Black Lake and we relaxed for a bit.
"So how are you liking Hogwarts so far?" I asked her.
"It's nice." She replied. "I feel a lot more at home here and it's only been a day." She laughed a little bit.
"Hogwarts does have that effect on people." I joked with her. "So why don't you tell me a little about yourself."
"Well, my name is Emily Black. I'm 14, and I like running."
We talked for a bit until I realized it was time for dinner. I brought her into the Great Hall and helped her find a seat before I took mine.
"Hey, Hermione." Ginny said, waving to me. "How is the new girl?"
"She's really nice. Too bad she's not in our year. She's a 4th year." I replied. The rest of dinner went by pretty quickly. When everyone was done eating I excused myself to go help Emily find her common room. When I found her she was sitting alone crying.
"Emily, what's wrong?" I asked as she got up. I have her a hug and she buried her face in my neck.
"I don't think the Slytherins like me very much." Was her muffled response.
"Oh, Emily. It'll be okay. They just have to get to know you. Come on, I'll show you to your dorm." I started walking to the Slytherin dorm, and I realized what she was talking about. A few Slytherins sneered at her and laughed. I turned her around and decided I'd go to Professor Mcgonagall.
"Where are we going?" She questioned.
"Those Slytherins were really rude to you. I'm going to ask Mcgonagall if you can stay in my dorm. I can conjure another bed."
"Okay." She seemed a lot happier. When I arrived at Mcgonagall's office, it was almost past curfew, but she let us in just the same.
"Hi, Professor, I was wondering if Emily could stay in my dorm with me. There were a few Slytherins who weren't very accepting of her."
"Well, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable." She said to Emily, "Hogwarts is your home now. We want you to feel safe." Emily nodded.
"Thank you, Professor, and goodnight." We walked back to my dorm in silence. Once we got to the common room, I saw Draco on the couch.
"Hermione, why were you out so late? You were past curfew, do I need to take away Gryffindor points?" He smirked.
"No, Draco, that won't b-"
"Draco!?" Emily asked excitedly.
"Wait. Emily?" He said. She nodded and jumped into his awaiting arms. They hugged, and he spun her around, until finally he put her down.
"Okay," I said, "Am I missing something?"
"Emily's my second cousin." Draco replied.
"Oh, yeah. Emily Black. You're related to the Black family." I paused for a moment. "Well, we should go to bed soon." Emily nodded and followed me.
"It's good to see you Draco." She said as we went into my room. I shut the door and concentrated on conjuring up another bed. I finally did it and I put some sheets on it.
"There you go. The bathroom's just in there," I pointed to the door opposite the one we came through. She nodded. "I'm going to get dressed." I went into the bathroom to get into my pajamas, and when I came back in Emily was already asleep. I got into my bed and tried to get to sleep.
