(Max)

Chloe and I inhaled that food. I felt tired now, I was full of food and ready for a nap. After we paid for our food, Chloe drove me back to Blackwell. I would have spent the day with her but I had a long night last night. I walked up to my door and saw something different written on my small whiteboard. "Lighthouse, 7:00. Bring a jacket. -N" I instantly smiled. I went into my room, and dropped to my bed. I felt tired but giddy and excited. So many thoughts were going through my head, it's hard to sleep. I took off my jeans, and put a cartoon show on and finally fell asleep.

I took the bus to the closet stop to the lighthouse. I walked the rest of the way, it didn't take long. It sucked though because it was freezing out, I wish my mom was at my dorm telling me to grab a hat or something. Once I reach the top of the hill I see a red truck. Nathan stood leaning against it looking at his phone. I walk closer to him, he looks up. "Hey Max." He had a childlike smile, I liked this side of Nathan.

"Hey." The boy took me by the wrist and lead me to the bed of the truck. There was a blanket that covered it and another on the side, as well as an expensive camera. He gestured for me to get in, I struggled. I was a bit to small to climb up and into the truck. Nathan grabbed my waist and helped me up. Even though he wasn't touching my skin, it felt like fire where his hands moved. Once I was in, he climbed up as well. We watched the as the sun fell. I rested my head on his shoulder after he put his arm around me. It was hella cold but that didn't matter to me, the only thing that mattered in this moment was Nathan.

(Nathan)

We stayed quiet for the sunset, a moment of peace in the storm of life. I don't know what it was about her, she mad the bad things go away. She made the comments my father made about me not matter anymore. It was cold, so I grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around Max. I held her. The sky was a pallet of pastel pinks and blues. All of the bay was quiet now, all of the fishermen had been done for the day. The water was calm. I close my eyes for a moment and breathe. I feel like I can actually breathe when I'm around Max. I kiss her on her soft ruby cheek. "Nathan?"
"Yeah"
"Why did you.. why did you agree to start over yesterday?"
"Everybody uses me," I sigh "everybody hates me. Everybody. They see me as some fucked up creature. I can't take that anymore. No one knows me, not really. I guess when I saw how sincere you looked, I thought I could give you a chance. Even if you still hated me. Like everyone else. "Kill the rich kid."" My eyes felt like glass and my cheeks burned. I couldn't cry though. Not in front of Max. But I couldn't stop myself. Max wiped the tears from my eyes with her sleeve and she kisses me on the forehead. She hugs me tightly before saying
"I don't hate you."
