Can't We Just Start Over?

Part 16

(Nathan)

I sit on a log and watch as Max and the others drunkenly dance. Max moves likes she's moving through a cloud. She holds her own bottle of strawberry wine and sips it while she moves. I exhale my cigarette smoke with a smile. The slender girl looks at me with hooded eyes. They are bright red. She shoots me a toothy grin. I take another drag and put out my cigarette with the bottom of my shoe. Max grabs my hand and attempts to pull me up. She giggles and I kiss her cheek.

"I'm tried." Max slurs at me.

"Me too." I say back before leading her to the tent. She climbs in and plops her body down onto her sleeping bag. I'm pretty sure she just passed out. I chuckle and roll my eyes before climbing in as well. She rolls over and stares at me. "Yeah?"

"I love you." She says calmly.

"I love you too." I say, Max smiles and falls back asleep. I take off my boots and strip down to my boxers and a dry tee shirt. After, I take Max's boots off and flop her body around a bit so that she is in her sleeping bag. I sit back after succeeding to catch my breath. After climbing into my own sleeping bag I place my head on my pillow and pass out as well.

(Max)

A sharp sting hits my head when I wake up. I groan quietly as I softly rub my temples. I sit up before looking over to Nathan. His arms are sprawled out to his side. He looks comfy. I smile before stretching my arms over my head. The smell of fire and coffee fill me. I carefully stand and move over Nathan and leave my tent. Chloe, Kate, Warren, and Dana are sitting in fold up lawn chairs. All drinking coffee, well Kate wasn't. She prefers tea. Kate was bundled up by the fire. Warren was making breakfast. Chloe was smoking and talking to Dana. I stand up.

"Damn Max! Have fun last night?" Chloe announces. I can't quite put the words together, until a breeze hits me. I look down to see I am standing in a pair of underwear and a bra. I must have kicked my sweats off in my sleep.. Right? I instantly feel my cheeks go red. I stumble backwards into the tent.

"Shit shit shit." I say under my breath. I carefully try to move over Nathan again. My foot slips as I stand over the sleeping boy. My body crashes on top of him and I instantly wake him up. Nathan's eyes snap open when he realizes what's going on. I freeze, scared and embarrassed. His cheeks go as red as his jacket. He simply stares at me. "Sorry." I say. Nathan opens his mouth but no words come out. Just small noises. I finally roll off and onto my vacant sleeping bag. Nathan doesn't move while I dig around in my sleeping bag for my sweat pants. I quickly pull them on before grabbing my boots and attempting to leap out of the tent. Nathan's hand grabs onto my arm and yanks me back. I turn to look at him. He simply pulls me down to kiss him. His lips are dry, his breath smells like cigarettes and booze.

"Mornin' sunshine." He says to me quietly.

"Morning." I reply before getting back up to leave the tent. I finally step out, I look up to see Chloe and Dana staring with a grin, Kate with raised eyebrows, and Warren with his mouth hanging open and red cheeks. "Morning." I say before walking to Chloe's truck.

I start digging through my backpack to find a t-shirt. Chloe hops up onto the bed of her truck.

"So, you gonna tell me?"

"What?"

"You know."

"I don't."

"Did my best friend finally get some?"

"No? I don't think so."

"Okay. Well, if you did would you tell me?"

"Of course."

"Good." I roll my eyes playfully while Chloe takes a hit of her cigarette. I finally slip on a shirt and hoodie.

"I need coffee." I say. Chloe jumps down and locks her arm in mine. She walks me to where she and Dana sat.

"So Max..." Dana says excitedly.

"It didn't happen. You owe my 5$." Chloe responds.

"You guys are betting on me losing my virginity?" I look to them in shock. They look at each other and back at me before nodding. I chuckle before taking a seat in Chloe's foldup chair. Chloe grabs me a mug off coffee and herself a new chair. I want to talk to Kate but she looks so cozy reading her book by the fire. I sip my coffee and feel this hangover slightly slip away.
